What is it used for?

If you're like me at all, you've been building something in Creative and need to fill something using World Edit. But, you can't figure out what to put in to use the block you need. With the //blockid command, you can figure out what id you need for any block.

How do you use it?
You use it by holding a block in your inventory. You put the block in your hand and do //blockid. In the chat, it will say (I think in blue font so you don't lose it in chat) which id you use. You could then use the block in World Edit.

Pros:
If you ask someone for an id, and they don't know or don't answer, you can use this command
Easier to figure out the id

Cons:
Could take a while to put into the game
Could not even be used

So, let me know what you think! If you need screenshots, I can upload some later.

There's already a button you can press on your keyboard. It's f3+h (In my case Fn+f3+h). I do get that this is easier, but making a command for something that already exists (even if nobody knows about it) is useless. I would rather recommend the server having a 'pop up notification' explaining everyone using world edit that if they press those certain buttons, they can get the block's id. (Just like the notifications that's advertising party games, etc) -1

I do agree with your reply, however some people, like myself, can't use those buttons for this purpose (I'm not sure why, I believe it's just my type of computer) I also think that having a pop-up notification while only some people can use it would be rather pointless. If advertising for party games, everyone could play it. But thanks for your feedback!

Have you tried Fn+f3+h yet though? My keyboard is different from the rest and when I used that it worked. Also, there's always websites with the id's.

I had tried Fn+f3+h. Also, for going to a website, I just believe that this way is easier.

What type of computer are you using?
For windows desktop it's f3+h
For Windows laptop it's fn+f3+h
For Apple desktop it's Fn+f3+h
For apple laptop idk apples suck

Try alt+fn+f3+h if all else fails

For apple laptop (MacBook Pro) it's fn+f3+h too. cx Hope I helped!
Thanks for your help although this post is about the suggestion.

There's no real downsides to the suggestion, and I think something like this already exists in the essentials plugin. (Don't quote me I haven't played in 6 months).
If not, it would be simple to make.
+1 I guess.

Personally when I had a laptop, Shift + f3 + H (shift can be held, f3 + H may need to be hit within a small window of eachother) was how I got it. Maybe try that? For desktop keyboards, there really shouldn't be any issue with F3 + H alone as stated.

Anyway, I know that some people won't know how do this key-combination, and may not want to go on some researching spree about all of these built in debug features. As for Mac users... Well, yea, I know these combinations are possible, but this may be a nice addition for them (Is not sure if those debug commands are more difficult to execute or not)

my F3 doesn't work due to my computer, because I use a MacBook air. So mostly Mac users aren't able to really use F3 and stuff, so I believe we should definitely Implement this. It would help those who can't use F3 and have issues with it and also those who are able to use F3 it won't even really affect them. So, in total this should be implemented

I'm not Elite or Elite+ to have W/E but i think it's easier than press something+alt+ihduowgougeg and i think it should be implemented.
+1

I believe you can only do this with the optifine mod, I tried it without optifine on and it didn't work, and it doesn't always work for some people.

I like this idea as it's a lot easier to use than trying to figure out which buttons you have to press on a keyboard.

Just press f3 + h it does that for you? Or if you don't have it, there are ways to change it in controls. But if just none of that works for you I guess this could be handy, But I rarely play creative so it wouldn't really affect me. +Meh

I've seen the command /iinfo or /iteminfo used for this before, and it's pretty nice to have on servers with chestshops and whatnot, so yeah, +1

Uhh, I used this when I first got minecraft, and I didn't get optifine until last year.

Kra3tys is on the right path: F3 + H (and it's variations) are debug commands implemented by Mojang. A list of these commands has been added through F3 + Q in versions 1.9 and up.

But this knowledge not being common supplies further evidence of a potential need for this command- It isn't like this kind of thing is the most complex possible thing anyway.

Sorry There Already Is F3+H Or FN+F3+H I think it would be useful as players are like "whats the id for this block"
I remain Neutral.
