Not sure if I'd count this as a suggestion or a complaint, but I'll post it here because I want to hear everyone's thoughts.

A staff member told me that YouTube videos that are posted here that haven't been approved by a staff member get removed and sometimes warned.
And we all know that too many warnings warrants a short ban on the forums. This can lead to people being confused, as a few months ago someone got banned for posting a Teletubbies video.
I'm going to be honest and say I understand why you do it, it's because it doesn't relate to the server.
Well I think that there should be a better understanding on things, and changes.
I know you've got your own rules for the videos, MCPZ, but these are just my suggestions on making the rule a bit more fair for everyone.
I've been some people randomly post YT links, but I've been told they've been approved by staff... which I'm not too sure about that much.

I think that these videos should be able to be freely posted here without worrying about infractions.
-Song videos, this'd be good to share remixes you've found, or to share your favorite songs.
-Cartoons, yea they're nice, sweet and innocent :3
-Family friendly memes, memes with no profanity and that aren't annoying would be nice to let people post. This wouldn't count as a meme, but for example if someone wanted to post the Pingu opening, they'd be able to do so without being warned (unless it's a version with bad language).
-Videos that related to MCPZ, for obvious reasons.

These videos should have moderator approval.
-Videos that are Minecraft, but not on MCPZ. This would only be allowed if it doesn't advertise another server, example, if someone wanted to show a singleplayer world, or some sort of guide.
-Videos with minor language which is not used very often, this could go for some songs too. I think that we're all mature enough and can handle a video, but staff members will be allowed to approve the video and put a "Minor language" warning in the post, or disallow the video. For example if I wanted to post a Halsey song (half of her songs have the f-bomb in it), I or a moderator would have to put a "minor language" warning. I know the server doesn't tolerate swearing, but we're all mature enough to make our own choices on what we do or don't click.

These videos will not be allowed at all, clearly.
-Videos with a bunch of sensitive topics, a lot of sexual content, songs where 90% of the lyrics are swearing... NSFW guides, constant strong language, etc etc etc. You all get what I mean.
-Minecraft videos that promote other servers.
-Videos that call out users in the community. If you're reporting someone, use the report function rather than showing everyone the video to shame someone.

So I want to hear your thoughts and I want to know how you feel about mine.

+1

I don't think any overwatch from the staff should be required for approval of videos. It is time consuming and completely unnecessary. People send chat messages all the time, and the rules are set. The only interactions Staff members must have with those messages is if someone whips out a curse word. The same should go for videos. If it advertises a different server, be gone. If its clearly just... not suitable for the audience on PZ, be gone. But... I mean. Approval?? Thats far too much work. We are trusted not to curse and say racial slurs and such in the chat, and I think the community does an excellent job. Why cant it be the same way for videos?

I'm pretty sure you can post youtube videos and stuff on your profile as long as it isn't inappropriate and will offend those who look at it
I once posted a YouTube video as my status that was heartwarming, no talking, no subtitles, just music and an animation about wildlife... got warned for it

Yeh i can confirm that as true
That's why I got punished for posting kid friendly videos on my own profile

omg me too but with something different, kid friendly...
The music one seems fair
Thank you and if there's bad language in the song, it should be edited out, or swapped with a clean version of the song.

I disagree, I think staff should review any kind of content before use on the forums. I can just see people posting videos that are innocent for the first ten seconds, then all heck breaks loose.

I don't see that. I see them being reported and punished. What reason would people have to post videos that aren't appropriate anyway?

as much as i love videos like these, i agree with this point... fair enough

Well why not prevent it having to be reported in the first place? You know how Minecraft players can be with posting links.

I think it should be as simple as "videos are okay as long as they don't break the forum/server rules."

Nothing kid-friendly needs to be blocked unless it breaks other rules like advertising, etc.

You know how Minecraft players can be with posting links.
That's not a valid point. You're assuming we agree with you on a vague and undescribed opinion.

Ok look, they can post links to scam sites, YouTube links that aren't allowed by any means, and you know what other types of websites.
If I were a server owner I wouldn't blink before not implementing this to the loving players who have donated to the server (and also regular players). There, is that explicit enough for you?

Sure, they can, but that doesn't mean they will. We have a set of rules here, and every user knows that breaking any one of those rules results in punishment. I have faith that our users (especially on the forums) have at least some ability to know when a link looks sketchy and to avoid clicking it. Besides, the topic of this discussion is videos, typically embedded in the post, not links.

I guess I'm not completely opposed to having the staff team approve some stuff that might be sketchy (like possible server advertisements, excessive swearing, sexual content [which should not be tolerated]), but I don't think any video needs to be removed if it doesn't break the server rules.

I'm pretty sure that if you get warn for posting a link of a YouTube video it means something is not right in the video.
-1 for me
