"Practice.." thought Max,
"It's been so boring lately. I'm doing terrible today. I'm their best player. Then this ups and happens. What's up with this new girl anyway? The guys won't shut up about her. 'She's probably so cute!' 'You like her?' 'Wonder how pretty she is!' 'You gonna ask her out?' 'Depends! She's gotta be my type!' ....Idiots. Somehow they kept their focus on the game so tight. He didn't. It's so stupid. How do they keep their focus while gossiping while he stumbled on thin air?"
"MAX! GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!" Shouted the coach.
Max's attention was drawn.
"THE COMPETITION IS IN TWO DAYS. AND YOU'RE PLAYING THE GAME AS IF YOU'RE A HEADLESS CHICKEN!"
"I got it.." Max turned around. Steadied the baseball bat. It was only lunch hour. Practice was gonna be in on lunchtime and after school for an hour. (Lunch is an hour too.)
"Hup! Shouted the Pitcher, Max's eyes glinted. Determination flared within.
WHAM
"You did mean it then! Great job, Max!" Shouted the coach.
The baseball had gone in to a nearby street. They were in the middle of the school baseball pitch. This is as big as a normal one in a stadium... They had soccer, rugby, basketball, baseball, tennis, all of them. Just as big as the pitches in stadiums.
Home run. The team applauded. Except for Carver. Little bully Carver. He's an idiot. People fear him. He's just thirsty for popularity. He's a werewolf. He has ears and a tail (like a wolf) like Don, except that Don has fox ears and tail. It's almost as if he lashes out at the slightest thing. The smallest thing makes him angry. He just wants to be the best out of, not only the werewolves, all of the students in the school.
Practice ended. They were going in to get changed back in to uniform for classes. Max walked off with his head down. A few of the boys from the team jumped on Max as he walked, congratulating him on the home run. Max looked to the sides at the spectator benches (like football ones) and caught sight of one person. A girl. The boys skipped off to the changing rooms. They didn't need to be in their uniforms. The teams are allowed to keep their kits on if they want to. Max wasn't going back into his uniform.
Max jogged over to the stands. He caught a close-up of the girl. She had black hair with a pony-tail, glistening, deep blue eyes filled with love and kindness. Max raised his eyebrows. She caught sight of him and smiled cutely with a thousand suns. Max's eyes lit up.
"You're that boy!" She exclaimed, happily, "What's your name?"
"Max."
She paused for a moment.
"I like that name!" She said with a gleeful smile. She paused again. "My name's Liliana!"
"I like that name too, It's pretty." Max smiled back. "Are you a freshman?"
"No, actually. I'm a sophomore. I'm just 14."
"Oh? I just havn't seen you around." Max rubbed the back of his hair. He took off his baseball cap.
"No surprise - I heard those guys talking, I'm that girl."
"WHAT!? YOU'RE THE NEW GIRL!"
Her hands clasped over his mouth.
"N-Not so loud!" She shushed him. She took her hands away from his mouth. He nodded.
She took his hand. She led him inside.
