I'm new to the forums, how does the messaging system work (apparently I have four but I don't recall ever messaging anyone)
Oh and what is "bumping"

The private messaging system is where you can talk to a forum user privately without it being public to the world. You can add more than 1 person to it and make a group conversation.
If you are referring to the 'Messages' statistic on your profile, that is how many threads or replies you've sent on the forum. If a reply or thread is deleted, this statistic will decrease.

Bumping is when you reply to a thread to make it top of the forum list once again. This normally happens when it reaches the bottom of the list or the second page so that people can still see it.
