Will developers who can code for Sponge be hired?

I don't know the first thing about how Bukkit/Forge/Cauldron/Sponge work, so please excuse me if this question is unreasonably stupid.

Also, for those of you who don't know, this is the sponge I'm talking about.

I've always been really curious about creating Minecraft plugins, and I thought the best time to learn would be when Sponge was first released, and everyone else was learning as well. If possible, once I got good enough, I would really like to help the server out, and contribute in bigger ways by helping develop.

Will Sponge be used for the server in any way?

I think PZ is going to use Spigot for now, but when Sponge comes out it will switch, eventually.
