Why was Infection Removed?

Well, a little stupid question, and it's already too late to ask, it's because I joined the server after Infection was removed. I would like to know why it was removed.
I suspect because PZ likes own original mini-games, and Infection was based in a game/or an other server mini-game?

Infection was never really properly finished and was broken most of the time. Then 1.7.something came along and made things even more difficult, so I just quietly abandoned it.
