Why PZ should stick with TeamSpeak...

I know I know, NOT a popular opinion, but hear me out.

Here are some reasons why there should be a Teamspeak:

- TeamSpeak's voice and muted chats are much better set up. There would need to be a new text channel created with each voice channel.

- TeamSpeak isn't as hard to moderate as Discord. Think about it: 50-100+ people every day having long text conversations compared to voice conversations with limited text moderation.

Here's are the reasons why people want a PZ Discord:

- They don't feel like taking the time to download TeamSpeak, link their account, and wait for someone to join their channel.
(I get it, with discord you always have someone to talk to, but if you really want to talk with your friends on discord create your own server.)

- They don't feel like talking/are not able to talk.
(Now this one isn't an issue at all. If you don't want to or cannot talk then you don't have to. As stated before there's a chat set up with each channel so you can still chat with people in the channel with you! :D)

- Discord is free.
(There’s no argument to this point, but I do say that the cost of a TS is roughly 100 dollars per year. This is definitely in the budget of PZ, taking into account all the E/E+ purchases this past Christmas.)

That's just my opinion though, if PZ still wants a discord, then create a discord, but please don't remove the TeamSpeak.

I agree with you on this! I originally didn't know why PZ only has teamspeak, but I understand now

I don't use teamspeak because I honestly don't know how to use it, and I've been using discord for a while. I think the unofficial discors are good enough

There are a couple guides (I think) to help, and if you can’t find anything that may help you use teamspeak, then contact a staff member and ask them about it.

Another pro to discord that is often overlooked is that discord is free, but teamspeak has to be payed for. The money we use on teamspeak (though I don't know how much it is, so I can't say it would make a huge difference) could be used on things involving upgrading the server.

I thought Teamspeak was free and only the phone app required money? I'm confused, lol.
 
I fully endorse this idea due to the facts it’s just easier to manage (maybe not to set up but it is when you’ve got the hang of it). Although it does need money to keep it up, let’s be honest, it’s more professional looking and looks cleaner for a network. A discord would be harder because it would just be weird to talk and type in a zone that matches it (i.e. speaking in a murder zone and if you can’t speak typing in a murder zone so it’s not all over the place in the main zone). Teamspeak is also better for moderation purposes.

I'll add that, but the server currently requires 100 dollars every year.
 
PZ itself is definitely looking at Discord as a switch. Its been brought up in meetings but cant be changed either way till the TeamSpeak contract runs out in June/July. So we will have to see, personally I dont mind either

No? there’d probably be a general chat where all conversations take place. I’m not sure why you’d think there’d need to be tons of text channels just for one voice channel... wouldn’t that be way too much to moderate? If someone needed to talk to someone privately, they could just direct message them, which is another reason why that system on discord exists.

not for one voice channel, for all of like the 15-20 of them.
 
I agree with you. While a discord would be great to have and very much preferred by me I believe the Teamspeak is more appropriate for the server.

Ok so I personally like discord better because I know how to use it and its free. I have never really liked teamspeak and I uninstalled it. This is my personal opinion .

They both essentially do the same thing, but here is why Discord is better :D mostly just summing up what you guys have said and throwing in some of my own opinions.

  • Discord is more popular amongst new members and is easier to use/understand
  • Discord is free to manage while Teamspeak costs money (According to your messages above, it's not cheap either)
  • If you learn how to use it and set it up correctly, it is a much more powerful and smooth program than Teamspeak, and Discord looks so much neater too ;)

That's all I've got so far, overall though, Discord is better in my opinion. This transition should be made sooner than later, the server should save its money and dispense it where it needs it. This is an unnecessary money dump, and in terms of the server its quite a bit too.
