I understand you're frustrated by the fact that these things haven't been done when they were promised before. A lot of these specific issues predate me and are things I want to put focus into after we're through the current workflow because just like you, I know it's beyond frustrating and annoying that features that were promised literally years ago are still yet to be actually added.
It's not necessarily that I'm asking for you to put everything in your current workload aside and finish goodie bags. That was more of an example of how things have been going for quite a while now. If my memory is correct, the goodie bag chests just sort of appeared one day and went largely unexplained except for that they were "coming soon." I don't remember getting any updates whatsoever about the progress or estimated release date of goodie bags; they were just "coming soon" far before any major leadership changes.
Things like that start to create a difficult relationship between community and server management. And then things like this roll around and we're told that things are getting done (which, as
@Lunanary said, is what has been going on for a while), but we aren't really being told
what is getting done or how long it's going to take. Don't get me wrong - I completely understand that there are features you'd like to keep as surprises (because who doesn't love a good surprise feature/game?), but we've been left for such a long time wondering what these features/games that you guys want to keep as surprises will actually be and if they'll even be worth the wait.
Regarding what you said previously about weekly/biweekly update logs - I'd honestly be fine with weekly/biweekly logs that say you've just been testing stuff. That wouldn't be redundant at all to me because I'd at least be told what's being tested. By
not sending logs, we basically have to just wait and assume you're still working on things. We have no way of knowing if the staff (hopefully won't) get lazy and just drop features that may have been promised earlier.
at least this owner cares enough to reply to concerns
Yes, I agree that it's great that he's responding to our concerns, but in terms of community/server management relations, that's all I'm seeing. "Be patient." "It's being worked on." It's what we've been told for such a long time now.
I just have a small tip, atleast say when problems are happening and it might get delayed and all that, TF2's team is basically hated as they have endless radio silence, nothing for months making the community angry and such.
I agree. I'd appreciate being told the stuff that isn't going so well, either. Not in an "excuses" sort of way, but a way that explains it, like "Hey, sorry things are taking so long. Here's why these features aren't going according to schedule. Here's when we'd like to have it done from now on, assuming everything goes okay."
Tl;dr I'm not trying to be a toxic member of the community. I'm really not. I just know that I'm not alone when I say that we're frustrated after being told for so long that updates are on the way, but then we aren't told when they're expected to be finished, why they aren't going according to schedule, what's being tested/worked on, etc. I think these issues are part of the reason why our player base is suffering so much. I checked the other day and there were 7 players online. 7 players worldwide. We can't excuse that by saying that it's in the middle of the school year. When I joined this server for the first time a few years ago, it was during the school year, and there were easily hundreds of players online the server pretty much all the time. Probably closer to a thousand in the summer.
I care about this server and I have a lot of great memories from it. If possible, I want this community and server to continue, but in a good way.
