Hello Partyzone!
Please ignore the spelling error at the title.

WYB (Watch Your Back) is a game where players go head to head to ELIMINATE each other. There can only be one winner.

How does WYB work?
You will be given a random identity and a random target. Your goal is to find your target and kill him WITHOUT being caught. Now this may sound easy enough but trust me, there are more catches, while you're on your hunting spree, there will be a sheriff lurking around to catch you. There will also be your predator. (The player who's target is you)

Roles and goals:
Sheriff~
(Only 1-2 sheriffs per round)
The sheriff's goal is to patrol the area. The sheriff will also have a predator but no prey. He will score points for every person he has caught killing and/or holding a weapon. The sheriff will lose points if they shoot a player without the requirements needed.
(Note: I am having a bit of doubt in the sheriff. Maybe it could just be the predators and prey? So I was wondering. Do you guys think the sheriff should be in the game?)
Prey~Each player will be prey to someone. Their goal is to keep a distance between them and their predator.
Predator~Now each player (except sheriff) will be predator. The predator must hunt and kill their target without getting caught. Once the player has killed his target, he will have a new target to kill. While killing his target there will be time gap (+/- 5 seconds) for the sheriff to kill him. (If the sheriff has seen him.) If the sheriff isn't around. The predator is safe.
*Note* If the predator is caught holding a weapon, the sheriff have the permission to shoot him.
Shop:
The shop will be just like the other gametypes (Murder & Downgrade)
The player will collect coins hidden around the map and use them to buy collectable hats, costumes and unique weapons. Upgrade your chance for becoming a sheriff etc.

Map layout:
I've been thinking of a few maps and come to conclusions on a few unofficial maps:
-Cruise Ship
-Classic Mansion
-Night Sky (City)

Expansions:
(Undecided)
There may be a round where there are two teams. The predators and sheriffs. The rules are like the original, but the predators targets are the sheriff and vise versa for the sheriffs. May the best team win.

*Edit*
The remaining two:

A message will pop up saying that this is the final death-match. The players will have no target because their final goal is to kill the other player.
Note: This idea has PLENTY of room for improvement so please give me your suggestions and feedback.
I'm so sorry if this confuses anyone. Yet i do believe a large amount of people get the idea :)

Is there a timer where you can "legally" kill someone as a sherriff?

How would it work when you finally kill your prey? would you get a new person to be your prey???

Staying neutral until I know how these things work.

The timer is the "time gap" I mentioned and what happens after you killed your prey is told at the predators section at Roles And Goals

Ah, I totally skipped the predators section. +1 now. =)

So everyone has a target...? Well cant the sheriff just kill anyone since everyone has a target????

No, read the suggestion through. If you kill your prey, you get another target and the sherriff has +/-5 seconds (as said in suggestion) to kill them.

So essentially, it's like that one gamemode in Assassin's Creed, but with a slight spin and turn on the mechanics? I like it :p +1

So I read something on Tumblr similar to this at some college, where you are given a name and a plastic knife and you have to go "kill" them. Once you "killed" your target you get their target. Would you get the person you killed's target or just some random one?

Otherwise +1 I would definitely play :D

I'm a little bit confused here, how does the sheriff win? Because everyone is a predator apart from them? Which means they could just shoot anyone? As well as that isn't it a bit unfair giving one player a target if a sheriff where as other predators get people who can't do anything. This game slightly confused me

Its like a point system with respawn timers and a game timer (Most likely) and the sheriff would win by getting the most kills (I would assume)

And maybe the game could make it so when you die you get a brand new identity so people don't target you?

So basically murder but 90% of the people are the murderers? Sorry, but that is what it reminds me of. However +1 cos I love it.

I see some people are a bit confused and therefor I added a few minor changes to the thread :]

Maybe if the sheriff gets a hit in within the first five seconds, the timer extends? Because as it stands, it seems like caught people can use the knockback that the sheriff will probably inevitably cause to get out of range to prevent the Sherrif from meaningfully killing them.

Or maybe giving every player intense knockback resistance? I dunno, just a couple of ideas I thought of while I was waiting for class to end.

Edit: Oh wait, I just realize you said "shoot" for the sheriff

I like this idea, but I have a "few" questions:

  • What happens when it's just the Sheriff and a Predator left? Does a deathmatch happen as normal? Is it still announced?
  • Are there any other ways to kill someone besides stabbing them? (Throwing Knives, Traps, etc.)
  • Is it a team-based effort for the Sheriffs, or does one Sheriff have to win against the other?
  • Do the Sheriffs know who the other sheriffs are?
  • What happens when all of one "team" is wiped out? (All predators/prey dead or all sheriffs dead)
  • Can Sheriffs kill other Sheriffs? If so, what's the penalty, if any?
  • If a Sheriff sees someone kill, but is unable to kill with-in the time frame, can they still kill afterwards since they saw it?
  • What methods besides loss of points will be used to combat Sheriffs shooting everyone, and winning by being the last one standing? Same with the Predators? If they lose points it won't matter if they are the last one standing.
  • What happens when a Predator holds a weapon in front of a Sheriff, but puts it away before dying. Will this cause the Sheriff to lose points?
  • What happens if you kill someone who isn't your prey? Again, you can still become the last one standing and win regardless of score.
  • Have you thought about how a sheriff detecting a knife, getting the permission to shoot, and how abuse prevention will be accomplished?
I'm finding it difficult to produce a sufficient opinion on this because there are quite a few missing clarifications, and these are just the ones that come to mind. After these questions are answered, I may be able to offer a decent opinion.

(Sorry for the late reply, My Exams are finally over)

  • If there are only two remaining (Doesn't matter if it's Predator vs Predator, Sheriff vs Sheriff Or Sheriff vs Predator) the goals then is to kill the other person. This will be announced as the 'Death Match' :)
  • This is a tricky one, I do believe that there must be other ways to kill, I just haven't thought of how the 'time gap' will fit into this.
  • Well, like I stated before, there can only be one winner. So it's like an alliance type of thing, all the sheriffs could work together and then turn on each other when it's the Death Match.
  • There can be a message on the screen showing the sheriff who the other sheriffs are.
  • If that happens, then it's like at the first answer, it's the deathmatch. If all the predators are dead, then the sheriffs are going to participate in the Death match, if all the sheriffs are dead, then the predators just carry on killing their targets until there's only 2 players left.
  • Well, that would be a dumb thing to do (Yet I know there will be players like this). I believe the penalty will be they simply that they just lose their weapon. And need to collect another one before they get killed.
  • I'm uncertain of the length of the time gap. We need to figure out what appropriate time length that is suitable for the game. If a player kills another one who's time gap is over. (Just like when the Murderer throws their knife)Then their weapon will just be laying around somewhere and they simply just need to find it.
  • Everyone has has a predator. So if they kill the maximum of (let's say) 2/3 innocent players. Then they'll lose their weapon and needs to find another one. Before their predator kills them.
  • Well if they are holding a weapon, this will also trigger another time gap where the sheriffs could shoot them. Doesn't matter if they were holding it or not. If they are killed within the time gap then it's a point to the sheriff.
  • Same as when a sheriff kills another sheriff. They'll lose their weapon and need to collect another one.
  • To be honest, I haven't thought of that yet. This is why WYB is still a Wip and why I need the server's help to make this game better and more 'understandable'
Thank you for these questions Cor. And I have edited the thread a bit :)

I really like the sound of this game! I think it has great potential. However I have a couple of questions.

1. I am a little bit confused about the sheriff idea. So will you be able to tell who the sheriff is or will the sheriff have a secret identity?
2. Will there be a timer for the predator to catch its prey? Or will you get a new prey once the predator has killed its target?

Those are my only questions so far, though like I said, I really like the idea of this game as it is unique! :)

I'm not really sure if this is exactly what you mean but just in case, this is my tweeked version of it

Maybe about 12 players? And each person gets a preditor and a prey, so while your chasing your prey, you're someone's prey but you don't know who, you can only kill your prey. If you kill your prey, your new prey is their prey, this goes on until 1 person remains

I do know that the sheriff part is a bit confusing. But I might consider removing that role?
