Everyone around me gasped as Theo disappeared to Who-Knows-Where. “Where d...did he go?” Mae stuttered. Oli shrugged, his eyes darting wildly.
“Guys. Focus. Maybe if we figure out the riddle he will come back. “ Liv suggested. We all crowded around the piece of paper.
I took a deep sigh, in hopes of being able to control my voice before I talked. “Well, it says that we can always see it. What can we always see?” I said
“Umm… colors?” Diana piped optimistically
Fox glared at her. “Some people are colorblind, idiot. “
“Oh… right” She frowned.
What could it be? We can always see the sky. Wait, no we can’t. Clouds can cover it.
“Oh my god! It’s so easy! We can always see the HORIZON, we can’t touch it, and it can’t move. It’s the horizon!! “ Fox declared, arms crossed.
We all glanced around, hoping to see Theo reappear.
“Guys… I don’t think he’s coming back. “ Mae sighed.
“He’s GOT to!” I insisted. “He has to. He can’t be gone… We just got here. He was probably just taken somewhere.. Its fine. Its fine. Its fine.”
Oli started shivering, so Diana went over to comfort him, but he gasped and stumbled away from her.
Then the voice came back. That dreaded, stupid voice “Good job. You got the first riddle. If you want to find Theo, go to the horizon. Easy, right? You’ll find out. If you want, I can show you him right now.”
“Yes!” We all yelled simultaneously.
In front of us, a screen appeared. Theo was on the other side, and he looked terrified. Theo backed up against a wall, and he looked frantic. Slithering towards him, teeth bared and eyes angry, was a wolf.
“Why is a wolf about to attack him!?”
“His parents were killed by a wolf. Wolves are his worst nightmare. So sad, isn’t it? Being killed by your worst nightmare? You know, I will let you guys watch him die. “ An invisible force grabbed my arms and pulled them behind my back, kicked my legs so I fell onto my knees, and pulled my head back. Oh no.
Enjoy!
