Chapter one
~Book's P.O.V~
It was a crisp November evening. Everything was silent until;
"Okay children! Listen up. It's 8:30pm. By 8:45 I want you ready for bed. Clear?!" squealed Madame Swindone.
"Yes, Miss Swindone." answered the 4 girls.
"AHEM!" she chanted.
"M-Madame." they whispered, frightened.
***
I swiftly shoved on my ugly, frilly nightdress that Miss Swindone (or as I like to nickname her, Miss Ratface!) insists that we wear. I heaved by body to the sinks were my toothbrush was kept. I wrapped my fist around the toothpaste tube, and squeezed some out. I then brushed my teeth. I checked the time. 8:38, already?! I quickly sped back to the dormitory, greeting the other 3, who were ready.
"I haaaaate Miss Ratface." I moaned.
The others nodded.
"Oh well," I said, "I guess we'll have to sleep."
I flicked the light switch, triggering the rest of the lamps and light bulbs. I then placed my head on the soft, warm pillow.
***
I'd never woken so early in the entirety of my life! Screeching sirens and bellowing men's voices echoed outside. I blinked, and crept up to the window. I then saw Miss Ratface standing before a short, plump man wearing a striking yellow hat. I listened into the conversation.
"You CANNOT shut this orphanage down!" she screamed, "I have 4 pathetic children to care for!"
When she insulted us, my eyebrows furrowed. It angered me that talked about us in such a manner behind our backs! I clenched my fists, but then heard the yawning of fellow roomates...
~Moon's P.O.V~
I woke up yawning, and saw Book standing at the window, fists clenched, eyebrows furrowing. I felt to ask 'what's up?' or 'how are you?' but then erased the idea, as I knew it would anger her further. I then noticed the utter racket of cranes, vans and sirens outside. I accompanied Book up by the window, and saw Madame Swindone arguing with a plump builder of some sort. Book realised my presence and greeted me with:
"Ratface said we're pathetic!" she squealed, clearly angered "And someone wants to shut this place down!"
I saw her eyes light up when she said that.
"Heh- cool, I guess?" I replied, awkwardly.
"Ugh, forget it." she moaned, "I'm hungry."
