For those of you who have some programming/game developing experience, of these two choices, which do you prefer?

Creating your own game.
-You have freedom to create whatever you want.

Creating Plugins/Mods for Pre-Existing games.
-You already have a game and structure to build off of.

I enabled multiple choices but avoid choosing both if you can

Also, Please don't vote if you have no experience in these matters

I would rather build off because it would make the game better and then people will play it

Yes I am creating a game called: Legend Of Bydak (an RPG)

I would rather build of a premade game just because its easier XD i am busy / lazy...

I would rather build my own game but off of a pre-built open source engine like the upcoming Source 2 or Unity.

It really depends which mood i'm in. I like to build off of games as there is already a lot to take from and work on. I dont like creating my own (Usually) because I can code but making graphics is effort
