Forums Stop Locking Threads for "Arguments"

I agree with this to an extent. As stated above, I believe, at times, locking the thread due to a few messages which can come across as aggressive/rude should simply just be removed, and if needed, punished- rather than getting blocked from further discussion. If the whole thread is a rather large argument and too many people are displaying rudeness and/or aggressiveness, a lock should be put in place. Though the threads are locked, by the way, in suggestions it is still taken into account and discussed by the feedback team. Of course, it’d be nice to gain more and quick feedback from the thread, by the users commenting.

Wew, I'm glad suggestions are still considered even if they're locked. But yeah, I agree, it's more beneficial to get as much feedback as possible from the original thread. Thanks for your thoughtful response!

If a thread needs to be locked because of arguments, the only reason should be if it becomes too aggressive or it's just plain insults that leads to nowhere. Civil debates is how almost any important decision is decided in the world, so treating it differently here because you want to spare feelings is kinda useless. Some people won't agree, let them express that. Censoring threads that are debating on a topic, serious or not, is neglectful to those who want their ideas to be heard and will make them more likely to not speak up during important times, silencing ideas that should be heard, not suppressed under the guise of "it could turn into flaming".

+1, don't lock threads unless the arguments are:
a. going nowhere
b. nothing but spite or flaming

Let the people here discuss their views. Don't impose this idea that any opposing opinion on a topic is too much for someone to handle. Just because a few bad eggs try to spoil the suggestion doesn't mean you should quarantine the entirety of it, especially when people are trying to defend or support their opinions.

Very well said. I wish I'd put a lot of that in the main post. Although I would like to point out (not really to you, but to everyone in general) that a thread isn't necessarily "going nowhere" just because a few points are being restated or the current focus is on something that's already been discussed (but still relevant), maybe in an effort to help others understand it better or to clarify views and opinions. I think a thread that is truly going nowhere is one in which users continually refuse to be open to having their minds changed, the thread goes off-topic for too long, etc. Hopefully that makes sense?

The off-topic point in my statement was more referred to if a thread has completely derailed and spiralled into nothing but baseless arguing that's purely there just for the sake of arguing over something, not necessarily a few posts that happen to be irrelevant or straying away from the point being primarily discussed.

I agree with this. If threads are locked, it should be because these threads are causing hostile arguments and those who do go off topic should be punished accordingly. All four of the threads you mentioned are suggestions, as well. Debating is a part of negotiating the topic and exploring different viewpoints.

I'm just waiting for someone to start a pointless argument on THIS thread and get it locked.

Yeah, that makes sense. Again, a few irrelevant posts can be corrected by staff. Hopefully that didn't seem like me arguing with you when I talked about off-topic posts, haha.

Hey, thanks :-] coming from a Senior Mod, that's really encouraging. The rules never said anything about non-hostile arguments being punishable, so it just didn't make sense to me why threads kept being locked.

Oof, let's hope that doesn't happen.

And in general, no one should be causing arguments and starting unnecessary problems where it will cause the thread to be locked. I think it needs to be clear that everyone needs to respect others’s opinions and even if you disagree with it, to at least look at their points and their perspective on certain things.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We're going to be going over this specific issue within the next couple weeks and see what we can do to resolve it.
Awesome! Thank you so much! Hopefully, this thread didn't look like a big temper tantrum, haha.

I still have no opinion on this and it's causing arugments, mainly because of me and what I said. I'm not going to reply to this thread anymore, so don't mention me or reply to me and expect a response.

Please don’t take this personal! Feel free to express your thoughts and ideas on the suggestion. Just understand that some people may disagree with you c:

This is a touchy subject, I believe the reason they lock threads for "arguments" Are where arguments tend to do to much. <3

Check the examples I gave in my second post of the thread, buddy. These arguments weren't getting out of hand. The PZ rules say absolutely nothing about "arguments;" it merely says things like don't intentionally flame users, don't curse, don't advertise, etc.

Besides, NobleProductions already said the staff team was going to look into implementing this suggestion.

Don't be rude for no reason please, I've done nothing besides put my input into the conversation, so please do not get so heated at me for no reason.

I didn't intend for any part of that message to be rude, and I'm not heated at you. I was merely responding to what you said
where arguments tend to do to much.
because I disagree. I do apologize if what I said came across as rude to you.
