Murder Something that could be added to murder...

Should this be added to some maps?

yes
So, every day I get X-Rayed by someone, and they instantly find me out and say out loud in chat. I used to use hacked clients (I don't use them anymore, don't go mental .-.), and I know that sometimes X-Ray is not configurable. It can see through practically everything but ores, so you could make (inside of walls) diamond/emerald ore. That way, when they try to look through, they see a wall of ore. This would only partially work on maps other than ones in halls, such as office. Ones like Oasis would be a lot tougher, but could be used between the ground and the tunnels. It might not solve all cases of X-Rayers, but it would definitely help out with a notable portion of them.

@Fox It may take a while, but it will prove effective in the long run. Plus, only a few maps would have it.

Well I bet there is a seperate x ray to watch only Players. Not ore.

If this were to be done, it would most likely be a project for the build team while they are revamping the maps. But a lot of the walls in most maps are just one block thick, so it wouldn’t work everywhere.

Good idea to try and stop them but...
But this would just make it even more difficult to get evidence of x-ray hackers. Probably best to just let them do it and then get punished for it.
We should just try our best to find them (in the games we are playing), record them, report them, then let the staff team punish them. We don’t want anyone cheating on any part of any map, anywhere.

Would it not be easier like this though? Then they would need to re-configure the x-ray, and in that time you can:
- Kill them
- Catch them staring at a wall (who does that)
- Both

Im staring at a wall when im bored.

oh fair enough
i suppose i do too

I mean, and xray catcher thing could be implemented, but ive never heard of one before and this is me rambling

This may break some maps and cause a lot of time into adding layers of ore. If you install the replay mod, you can try to use that to prove someone using x-ray. If the murderer is looking at the walls too long in obvious search of a player, well, there you go. May be hard to prove on bigger maps, but on maps like clue you can get it

Overall however this is a not so great idea due to the fact that it can break how compact the smaller maps are and generally make the smaller maps less appealing to players. Not to mention taking a lot of time to implement.

@GayHeqrt Shouldn't this be in Suggestions?

Btw this is really good but it might take a long time to update the maps.
Agreed, and although it would probably pay off, I have a feeling that it could possibly ruin the aesthetics of the maps, but who knows?

It's honestly perfect timing as older maps are being redone (temple plz).
I'd rather have mansion redone first. Can't handle all that tall grass anymore. ;-;

@GamerGuts could you offer your opinion, as it would be a job for the BT while you guys are revamping stuff over there...

You can go into settings on X-Ray and make it so you don't see diamonds, emeralds, iron, et cetera. Like it was said, it's better to have the hackers get punished for their wrongdoings.

-1, just report the players with proof.

still, it isn't normal for a person with a knife in their hand to look at a wall if they aren't typing

unless they're weird

f5 or afk/hiding...
F5 vs Xray is a very hard to tell thing. thus why it is better not to be in a wall since it could be suspected as xray. Such as the fort in the road(a Y shape) in the map italy. You could be looking down with f5 on which is a effective method. Yet the best solution for not getting "banned" or suspected of xray is looking away from the wall and using the front view instead of the more common back view. Since you are usually looking in the sky. Yet at times even that might be suspcious from have a two way look(such as the middle of italy from any corner using back view f5.

Also we are all busy people in our own way and some don't care much for the game so if there are afk at a wall it doesnt mean they are hacking.

Lastly, the best way to tell if someone is hacking is by observing where they go and if they glance at a player through a wall. Another thing to be aware of is f3+b. this not only shows hit boxes but where your character or item is looking. The looking line is about 1.5 blocks long not including your character. Meaning if I were a selected amount away such as -5 blocks down and -1 block left and the player was in the left corner of a room (1 block up and -1 block left from starting point (0,0)) also that (0,0) was the opening point in the wall to see the player, then there is only a certain amount of ways you could see the blue looking line of the player if they faced left you would never see it, but if they faced perfectly right you would definitly see it.

key:
o = door/opening
- = a block
.= Not existing block;was needed to show uneven positioning.
/ = players
_ = player's line of sight

Sorry if it is too long, hope it helps give you a better understanding of how xray gets confused with allowed modifications. Saying flat out someone xrays because they looked at a wall and won isn't always easy to say... then again.

(missed quake pro that gives wider view range)
