Please only reply if you have guaranteed knowledge of what I'm asking.

If I were to get Skype, so I can apply for helper, how private could I get yet still be contactable?
I assume you can see my display name if you have my Skype address?
Will I only be contacted via message?
And can I be contacted without adding people to my list of contacts?

You just need Skype to be added to the group staff chat, you will not be called, it's just messages :)
You don't need to add anyone if you don't wish to, you'll need to add someone so they can add you to staff chat, but you can always remove them if you don't feel comfortable having people as contacts.
As for what people can see, if they're not on your contact list they can basically only see your username, display name and country.
 
Well if you don't have the contacts saved, make sure the "receive calls/messaging for anyone" is on, because if it on "contacts only" that person must ask you for your permission before they can message you. You can keep pretty much every settings private, as long as they don't stop others from messaging you.

Birth date- can be private
Receive messaging from anyone, other wise they must be in your contacts
Status message- not sure if it can be private
Other settings that has information about you- can be private
Messaging, calls, other communication settings must allow anyone to contact you.

Just hide all your ''Personal stuffs'' Like birthday phone IRL Name maybe even country if you feel that it is nessecary, But if someone tries to add you just change your ''Displayed Username'' By click on your thing that has your username then Edit it to be something like Uprooter of teh green.

Star If I Didn't Have SKype At The Time OF Application Can I Tell You My Skype later If I Need it for helper ?
