I'm not sure if this is possible but when you hit the "report" button, the post you report should be hidden so it's only visible by staff members.

Pros
  • Advertisement posts are seen by less people
One person reports it, that post is hidden. Less people would be scammed and the "Recent Threads" page would be

Cons
  • Could be abused
So can everything else. The staff can just warn the person who abused it, like they already do.

I thought that this already happened...whoops! XD If this isn’t already a thing, it should be. +1

I don't think it does... I'll go find an advertisement post and report it real quick.

Edit: Yep, doesn't happen.

Just a factor to relook at here, it is punishable if you abuse the ‘Report’ button. So if you even were to abuse it, staff will track it down and consider your consequences after.

Other than that, this would definitely help block out unnecessary posts and threads if necessary.
I would, though, only limit it to major rule breaking posts. For example, if it was cussing, then yes, that should be hidden. If it’s something like replying to a cold thread there isn’t really a necessity to make it hidden anyway. To put it in a simple way, just hide major things.

Right so the idea isn't half bad when it comes to adverts, but as you said it's easy to abuse. Sure we can punish users who abuse it, but it essentially will allow anyone who disagrees with something temporarily block it until a staff member comes in and cleans it up, which is honestly just way to inconvenient for everyone involved.

Good point.

Perhaps we could take down reported posts for review if it's for people who have been on the forums for less than five or ten days?

If the system can be that specific, then sure. Maybe after having one message cleared the posts won't be blocked as well?

Tbh if more people report the post, it could get the staff's attention quicker.
-1 because I don't want my clean family friendly posts being taken down/put invisible for no reason.

They wouldn't be. If they were, the person who reported them would be punished and the post would be made visible again.

I also thought of another thing? What if someone got punished for "reporting" a post that they felt was offensive or against the rules, but the moderators decided it was a perfectly fine post... would the player be punished for being offended enough to report the post, or would it only be if they continued?

That wouldn't change if this suggestion is added or not... People can already report posts and are already published if they abuse it

This could be remedied if the staff team would ever revise their rules to be more clear on a number of matters, and stop locking threads and/or taking down posts when none of the rules are actually being broken.

I agree with this post, lately there have been posts advertising weird topics and unneeded points.

+1

I think this is a good idea, however, I think it should be limited to staff members since players could easily make any thread hidden.
That just defeats the purpose of this. Stuff is reported by non-staff so that staff see it quicker.
Another option would be for the thread to not be hidden when reported by players.
That's already a thing. The thing I'm suggesting is that the post is hidden. If it's a comment on a thread, the thread isn't removed. If a thread is reported, the thread should be removed.
