"Rant" I guess

Hello, So today was pretty interesting because I asked a mod a pretty good question which he didn't answer me completely. Instead I was answered by an Elite which for me wasn't really what I was looking for (I mean no disrespect). My question was are swear words censored on this server? By which some players replied by saying I don't know or they should be etc and so then I asked well because if they are I saw someone use a very racist and offensive word the other day. And the response was go to the forums and report it. Now in a way I understand what they are saying but at the same time it confuses me because isn't this server supposed to "KID" friendly? Most people who play minecraft are children aren't they? The elite told me basically that they cant control what players say, but they can simply by censoring the word. Now i'm not saying this is easy by any means but its something that should be done. Another player told me to shrink my chat so I couldn't see it? What kind of nonsense is that? The fact that most of these people just brushed it off was pretty annoying and frustrating. Obviously I'm not expecting a change right then and there but for an elite that is honestly really well known and respected around the server to just say to me complaining in chat wont do anything and to go to the forums is just so crazy to me, it really shows how much these people really care honestly. Racism is NO JOKE, we never know if a black child, teen, adult gets bullied at school, streets, anywhere and for being the race that they are and for them to go on and see someone use the term is not okay. The server should be a safe place which for the most part it is but there are a couple of things that should be changed. At the end of the day the truth is I know no one that works in the server in real life, we are just behind a screen tapping away at the keyboard. I'm almost positive that most or if not all the people who work in this community are good and hard working people.

On this network, swear words, or any offensive terms are strictly not allowed (as seen in the rules). If you do see someone breaking the rules, you can always message a staff member in-game or make a User Report here on the forums. We do have a chat filter, but there are ways you can bypass it. Bypassing the chat filter is also not allowed and is punishable. We are working on updating the chat filter, it just takes time.
 
When you say chat filter do you mean that these words are completely censored? Because the particular word I saw someone use wasn't and of course I agree with you there are many ways a player can bypass it but the again the full out word i saw wasn't and it SHOULD be. Thank you for replying to my rant and im glad you guys are taking this seriously lets just hope a change actually happens.

There are a good amount of swear words that are completely censored and are filtered. As for words that are uncensored/unfiltered, as Jeb said, it is definitely going to be updated, but it will take time.
 
As Absol said, there will be updates. But they take time because they need to watch for people that go around the filter and censor the word that is around the filter. It takes a long time.
 
The censor is pretty strong and the staff can deal with what it misses, but some people who try to circumvent it succeed. Of course it can't be stopped, since some people seem to think that they can be sexist or racist or any kind of a discriminatory person to make others feel bad.

The chat filter and the staff together cannot get EVERY word, sometimes some slip through, so it does need to be updated. There are like a hundred curses, and it can't all be censored.
 
Just an idea to the staff, Perhaps you could ask players on how they bypass it so for example ! and I and things like that. See how they bypass it and cover up the word and/or symbols. It also isn't that hard as you can type part of the word in one message and the end in another.This is complex to code and wrk on but it IS possible.

Only if that was a swear word or a racist word it would NOT be blocked. This IS something that your developers or staff SHOUL be working on because even if there is a 20 year old on here they could still be offended. This is something to look in more depth.
 
You could write an algorithm that blocks the letters in a certain order, and ignores punctuation in between letters.
It might be a little hard, but how badly do you want things blocked on the server.
When you do update your filter work on racial slurs first, as they can be more offensive.

People could be doing this

DJkitty: Oh U/N/I/C/O/R/N/S/! I did it wrong!

DJkitty: Oh P/O/K/E/M/O/N/ /G/O/! I was killed!

In the far distant past, the dinosaur ages of Party Zonia, where dinosaurs and creepers were rampant and flying through the air on wings of fire, I believe we once did have that, however it began filtering and messing up completely innocent words which happens to contain inappropriate words in them which simply just made up that word. It was removed after it began causing a lot of people to get annoyed over this I believe.

Well you need to understand that people can bypass chat filters, and it isn't the server's fault, you can report it at mcpz.net, I understand that you want this server to be kid friendly but sometimes people bypass chat filters and we can only report it.
 
Please can someone request for this thread to be locked. We have established everything at least 3 times, you have had players and staff help you with this issue and the more people to see this the more people will reply saying the same things in a different style of words/language use.
