rant: i am so angry. whenever i dont have time to take my dogs on a walk, i put them on a leash outside so they can do their business. i have trained them to do this. not very difficult. my neighbors do not put their dog on a leash, nor have a fence to contain their dog. it runs around. all. the. time. ive never hated a dog but i HATE this dog. he attacks my cat and terrorizing my two dogs everytime they are outside. no matter how many times i have confronted them, they still leave their dog free to roam around and be probably the worst dog ive ever met.

whats your opinion- leash your dog? or let it run around like a barbarian

update: threatened to call animal control because its coming onto my front porch and she stilllllll didnt do anything so i am about to personally bring her a leash and give her a tutorial on how to use it since she obviously has no idea!!!!

I live out in the middle of nowhere and don't leash my dog, but we have a big enough yard and long enough driveway that it's not a problem. She always stays with me or whoever's giving her a walk. I'd say if you live in town, you should probably put the dog on a leash so it doesn't run around and do its business in other people's yards.

exactly, i like really dont care if people dont leash their dog but only if theyre in a secluded area and there arent other peoples pets around. like if you can train your dog to do that then great thats really cool i wish my dogs could be calm enough to do that but some people obviously dont get it):

Well, when she's outside, there's always someone outside with her to make sure she's okay. If a dog might run off or bother neighbors' pets, I would keep it on a leash.

yes thats understandable, i used to do that with my dog when he was a puppy. but i was always right there with him or knew where he was, she lets her dog go roam the neighborhood. it urkes me

kick the doge if he bothers you, he will never come back again.
dont say it wont work, my neighbors had a doge, it died a while ago, but it worked with me.

I have a fence all around my backyard for my dogs to play and other things. Sometimes I'll go outside with one of my dogs (his name is Scout) and I'll play with him without a leash, but he is a very good dog and won't leave my front yard. So if someone was passing by my house he wouldn't go to them or any other dogs near. On the other hand, my other dog (his name is Zeke) will run off so he always has a leash. I do think all dogs should have a leash on unless they're very good at staying with there owners and not bother anyone.

well ok so some physical punishment can work, but don't let it get too far or the dog will actually be traumatized

it's kind of like shock collars; make the dog feel uncomfortable if it's disobeying, but don't keep shocking it repeatedly.

yeah, but i kicked it once and it never came back in its entire lifetime. so it did work, and he traumatized me by trying to eat my crocs.

update: i called animal control!! they showed up at her house and i watch the whole thing from my window

My old chihuahua was so well trained that she never left the yard so we never leashed her. However, she was also old and wouldn't be able to run away if she tried lol.

Only allow your dog to roam without a leash if they will stay in your yard. Especially if you live in a busy neighborhood. The unleashed dog could get hit by cars, attacked by wild animals, or contract diseases from eating stuff they shouldn't be.

i agree, i understand not leashing your dog if it stays near you, but if its not trained, its safer for not only your dog but other peoples pets not to let them roam
