Need a backstory for my newest OC.

So, I have this new OC known as Squeaks. {I've signed him up for a few stories already, so if you wanna know about him then just check those out.}

I've nearly finished him except that I can't think of a good backstory for him. Any ideas?

P.S I would like the backstory to give a reason / explanation for why he has Scopophobia {Fear of being stared at / looked at}. I would like the backstory to be sad but not 'He attempted suicide 10 times every heckin' year' sad, if that's understandable.

Ok so uh: idea

I could put a lot more effort into this explanation, but here it is:

His parents always told him that he wad ugly / not like other kids, constantly degrading and diminishing him and therefore he felt that whenever someone said his name or looked at him, he was being judged and there was no other thing that they could have been talking or thinking about etc.
