Walking. Fatigue. Aching. Pain. Four words that have intertwined into Irelynd's life. Her day's consisted of being worked until she could no longer move her muscles. She was know as the orchard girl. The little girl forced to work on in the fields. Irelynd lives in a small town called Drenpina, as well as many other 14 year olds.
' How's it going? ' chirps Fluer, the bakers daughter. She hands Irelynd a piece of burnt bread. Irelynd notices the cuts on her fingers. ' You fought your dad for me..to get me burnt bread? ' Fluer nods, and I can tell that she can't afford to have fresh bread herself.
Cecilia, the mayors ( adopted ) daughter however could supply the whole town with food. She's selfish.. That's when a well fed boy interupt's my thoughts, ' Better pick the corn right, by the stalk ' He instructs me. The gladiator's adopted.. son, I fumble with the pendant around my neck, and I see both of them are wearing a half of a pendant like I am. We weren't the related.. the pendants didn't match.. it didn't make sense.
' Pendants.. ' she mutters, and the boy stares at her like she's crazy. ' Girl, I'm Donovan. What's your name. ' Irelynd's back cracks, in answer of the boy she whispers ' Irelynd '
Garrett.. who even Cecelia was fond of, the adopted son of the head of the Peace Board and Drenpina Marketplace. A high paying job, Irelynd thought. Then she notices a pendant too.
And April, a small sly little girl. Nobody knew who she was.. except that her name was April.
With this bunch, I knew it was going to be along year, no matter how hard I prayed that it would be easy.. not that any year was ever going to be easy.
