Arabella sits on the side of her bed, having just woken to up to the sound of a siren going off. She'd never heard it before. Then, a knock on her door.
"It's open. Come in." She says, with a rather tired voice.
River walks in. "Bella, you need to get out here."
"Why? What was that siren?"
"We don't know. We're still trying to figure that out."
"Figure it out without me. Your mysterious siren woke me up."
"No, Bella. We think that storm might be coming." River grabs her hand. "Come on."
Bella stands up, still in her PJ's. She groans a little bit, while she's quickly dragged out of her room and into the cafeteria.
River was like an older sister to Bella. Bella never had known any other sibling, but only because Bella's mom died whilst giving birth to her. Bella wasn't her mother's first, no. Bella's older sibling's name was Jeremy. He would be 26, as of right now. He ran away when he was 10 because he hated this place. The "leader," whom they all called "Principle Ando," let everyone out for a day. The air where they live is extremely toxic, caused by a mysterious source that none of them know of. The air that day wasn't as toxic, although they still lost 4 people due to the air. Jeremy managed to get away and no one knows where he is, or if he's even still alive to this day.
When they got to the cafeteria, all eyes were on them. Everyone was staring at them, including the parents. Principal Ando was standing on one of the tables.
"Welcome, Bella. Please take a seat."
Bella goes over to one of tables and reluctantly sits down beside Max. Max was her bestfriend. Partner in crime, everyone would say.
"Nice outfit, smalls." He whispered.
She looks down at her froggy pajama pants and grey crop top. "Gee thanks."
"So, as I was saying. The siren has never been heard by any of us before, but it sounded similar to the storm siren, which means that it may be a type of storm that we have never encountered before."
Everyone nods, and Antaxxia raises her hand. "Sir, do you have any idea what type of storm?"
The principal sort of rolls his eyes. "Aqua, if we knew, you would too."
Max glances over at Bella and laughs, which makes her laugh. The principal looks at them.
"Is there something you would like to tell us all, Arabella?"
Her face gets red. "Of course not, sir." She says quietly, avoiding all eye contact.
"I didn't think so."
He looks around the room one more time before continuing."
"Okay... So, we think that the siren was the 40 minute siren, based off of the pitch of it. Which means that we need to get as protected as we can before it hits. Right now, I would like everyone to hurry back to their rooms so that they can get in the safest spot possible. For everyone here, that would be the chamber in your closets. Go. Quickly."
Bella and Max run to their rooms, and Max stops half way, going into Bella's room.
"Max, what are you doing??"
"If you die, so do I. I need someone to be there for me through all of this."
Bella quickly nods and opens her closet, going into the chamber with Max. Max's parents died too. They were 2 out of the 4 that died in the air toxication.
They quietly sit in the chamber for a couple of minutes when Max grabs Bella's hand.
"What's that for?"
"I want you to know," Max starts. "That I love you, Bella. With all of my heart, I do. You've been my bestfriend for so long, and you've always been there, so if we don't make it, or if you don't, remember that I do. But if we do make it... I just told you that for absolutely no reason."
Bella laughs at him. "I love you too, Max." He smiles at her.
They sit, side by side, still holding hands for a few minutes longer.
"Max?"
"Yeah?"
"If we don't live, I want to say that-"
The very sudden explosion stops her from saying anything, and hundreds of screams are heard. Bella's vision and hearing go blank, and the rest is a complete blur.
