When you think about it, not a lot. Super Mario Galaxy did something way different than all the others, and the sequel expanded on it. Super Mario 64 paved the way for Super Mario 3D Land, 3D World, and Odyssey (and SMG). New Super Mario Bros. was a segway into their portable devices. Mario Kart is different because it's a racing game. Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion were completely unique.
Why are we arguing about this? It's clear that we all have our own opinions. I was merely encouraging another user to purchase a Nintendo Switch/Splatoon 2 because they really are great if one can get past one's pre-conceived notions about Nintendo's future.
