a starless night
Hullo, I have rarely been posting on here. A sad thought on my behalf. So here is another short story that's supposed to be homework. Anyway, enjoy!

Down to a Sunless Sea
The waves cut through the damp sand again and again. The cold water laps against my bare feet. All is calm on the sunless beach. All is calm. Seagulls squawk loudly, rousing me from my thoughts. This is the third time I've come down here, alone. The sun is disappearing, sinking into the turquoise gloom. My only haven, the sea when the sun no longer shines. The beach is empty; no one comes to the beach when it's no longer sunny. The fun and the sunshine are gone, sinking away.

To me, a sunless beach has always been a beautiful place. Hues of orange and red colour the horizon as the day turns to night. The quietness of the beach, where the only company are the waves. But once the sun has gone down and the moon appears, it's an even more beautiful sight. The pale moon illuminates the dark water. I go to this small, isolated beach more times that I can count. Since childhood, I've come here. It's become a special place to me. Whenever I come here, I begin to relive memories. One of my favourite memories is when I showed my empty haven to the person I trust most. But now they are gone, and only I sit on this sunless beach.

I hug my knees and watch the sky darken. My mind is blank, no happy memories of this place fill my mind. Like writer's block, I cannot conjure up anything of this location. Only the present. Like how the water looks almost black. How the sand surrounds my toes, tickling them. The way the waves flick up ever so slightly. I watch my hair float around in the breeze, whistling around the sandy landscape. Blinking slowly, my eyes begin to feel heavy. Before I can stop myself, I fall asleep on the coarse sand.

A low chuckle accompanied by the sound of sand moving wakes me from my sleep. I look up drowsily, and my throat catches. Standing above me is him. The one person I'd never stop trusting even if he disappeared. Michael. I watch him lay down a blanket, smoothing it out before sitting down. He looks at me, a small smile on his face. 'Miss me?' He asks, smirking at me like he always does.
'How could I not?' I say, grabbing him into a hug.
He laughs again, holding me in his large arms.
'Where did you go? You left me.' I ask, looking at him straight in the eye.
His smile fell, 'Oh, Callie, I never meant to leave you. Not ever.'

During the night Michael tells me where he went, what happened. Telling me over and over how he never meant to leave. His work moved him across the world, and how he never got the chance to say. But the second he came back, he ran to my house. When my sister, Lily, said I was out, he knew exactly where I would be. Now here we are, at the sunless beach, never letting go. The stars are bright tonight, cutting through the pitch blackness of the night. I always called this place my empty haven, but now it's our haven. No childhood memories filled my head when I sat here, but that's because I had a new memory to make.

you're so good at writing stories o.o

Scenario: I have a homework where I need to write a story called either 'The Mistake' or 'Down to a Sunless Sea'. Me being me, I have written both. Which one should I use as my actual homework?
