Be Safe on the Internet

We havn't had this news in Britain, unless it's coming. But we've had a lot of news about things online before so
ISPs legally have to retain all of your browsing information and everything you do or visit through the internet by the government, also including mobile phone texts and calls etc for a year. You may remember Edward Snowden revealing all the sneaky things governments do to listen in on calls and texts and browsing activity etc, just because you've managed to avoid articles about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Nothing you do is private anymore; it's the 21st century.

A rather informed article that goes into more depth.

tl;dr: sure you may protect your data from being sold on or leaked, but the government has it anyway whether you like it or not.

There's really no need to do that. The thread is a serious topic about the fact that you can be tracked and your information can be leaked. I wouldn't be postings gifs and memes.

I'm just going to say, this sounds a bit rude towards this user for no reason, yea it can be a serious topic but they were just trying to liven the mood a little on this post, because bad situations or topics are always better with a little bit of fun in them, makes them, well, less bad.

However, it was very nice of you to make this post as it helps spread awareness about this issue :)

It's not really just because of shady sites. I've noticed that the sites that are HTTPs secured like google, youtube etc. are using fingerprinting and scripts and trackers. It's insane to think that the sites you know are tracking you.

Read the message above this quote.

For the UK, I'm not that sure. Pretty sure they do in fact track you but they're strictly forbidden from selling your private information.
From what i gathered from that, that means that the UK government CAN'T sell our information? DAMN theyre actually good for something

In which countries?

In which countries?
UK, US, Canada, China, Russia, Australia, Germany and many many more western countries all collect data and spy on their citizens and even share it with other countries through different programs. The NSA (America's version) on it's own is allowed to spy on essentially every country.

Essentially unless you live on a different planet you're being watched. There's always VPNs and ways to try to encrypt data and hide the origins but the integrity of these systems and whether or not governments have some backdoor access through hacking is questionable.

This is pretty much true. Chrome is feeding browsing history into government so.

They can't sell it, unless someone decides to make it so that anyone can.

It's legal for the government I'm pretty sure. They use it only to catch people that could be linked to many groups that are killing people. It could be good at the same time, but bad at the same time. You won't really know unless you were part of the organization to spy on people.
