Adding a Staff Member as a Friend
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to touch on a topic for everyone to clear up a few things regarding adding a member of the MCPZ Staff Team as a friend on the server. We don't want anyone to feel like we don't like them or that you've annoyed us because most of the time that isn't the case.
As this is a rather long thread, I will highlight some things for easier reading:
Bold Blue - Side notes to the thread or the main title. They aren't about the main topic but are much shorter.
Bold Black - Sub-titles. They'll help you find a section you want to read about.
Italic - The main points in a large block of text, if you don't feel like reading it all.
This may not apply to all staff members on the network but I will share with you some of the points that come to mind for myself.
Why do some staff members ignore friend requests?
As a member of staff, it's our duty to help the community and to make sure that players are happy to approach us directly (e.g for player reports, questions etc...). When a friend request is declined, you get a little notification that tells you your request to add a player has been declined. In turn, that sends the message that we don't want to be your friend and that's not the message we want to send. So rather than send that message, we may ignore the request so that it doesn't make you feel like you've annoyed or upset us.
If a member of staff does ignore your friend request, don't be upset. There may be other reasons we don't respond to a request and we aren't ignoring you specifically. You're always welcome to message a staff member or talk to them in public chat, that's what we're there for.
Why wouldn't you just accept the request instead?
There can be many reasons for this and I may add more from staff members comments on this thread. I don't speak for all the staff on the network and some may accept friend requests even, this is just a general thread on why some may not.
One of the reasons can be that we don't want players to know where we are all the time. This can lead to some players following members of staff around and trying to get their attention. Sometimes, we may just want some time to ourselves and that little bit of privacy on the network. Imagine if you had 30 friends that all followed you around wherever you went, it might get a little disturbing.
Another reason could be that we don't want players to know the exact time we go on and offline. It may mean that as soon as we get on the server and before we even get our bearings, we may be bombarded with messages. Sometimes, we may just pop in to check something or do some staff things and not have time to stop. As soon as the questions start coming in at that point, we'd feel obligated to stay and answer them which might be a little inconvenient (feel free to do so though if you catch us online).
A third reason, which is one of my reasons for this, is that we don't want to add players who want a staff member as a friend for convenience. We may reserve our friends list for people who we play with, know in real life or from other places or anything else along those lines. If you're adding us just to show off or to have a messaging arsenal then that might be a reason for not getting added. Try talking to us and have fun with us, then you may even get one from a staff member instead!
So should I just not send a staff member a friend request then?
Not at all, as I said above, I don't speak for all the staff members and some staff may actually add players as a friend. Might even be just me, who knows! I just don't want you to be offended if we don't respond or if you do get declined. We're not mad at you for trying to be our friend, it's actually nice to know we're doing a good job keeping everyone happy

Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, sections you want answering in this thread or changes to anything then please let me know down below. Of course, if any staff want to add anything then just message me and I'll add it in.
