Adding a Staff Member as a Friend

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to touch on a topic for everyone to clear up a few things regarding adding a member of the MCPZ Staff Team as a friend on the server. We don't want anyone to feel like we don't like them or that you've annoyed us because most of the time that isn't the case.

As this is a rather long thread, I will highlight some things for easier reading:

Bold Blue - Side notes to the thread or the main title. They aren't about the main topic but are much shorter.
Bold Black - Sub-titles. They'll help you find a section you want to read about.
Italic - The main points in a large block of text, if you don't feel like reading it all.

This may not apply to all staff members on the network but I will share with you some of the points that come to mind for myself.

Why do some staff members ignore friend requests?

As a member of staff, it's our duty to help the community and to make sure that players are happy to approach us directly (e.g for player reports, questions etc...). When a friend request is declined, you get a little notification that tells you your request to add a player has been declined. In turn, that sends the message that we don't want to be your friend and that's not the message we want to send. So rather than send that message, we may ignore the request so that it doesn't make you feel like you've annoyed or upset us.

If a member of staff does ignore your friend request, don't be upset. There may be other reasons we don't respond to a request and we aren't ignoring you specifically. You're always welcome to message a staff member or talk to them in public chat, that's what we're there for.

Why wouldn't you just accept the request instead?

There can be many reasons for this and I may add more from staff members comments on this thread. I don't speak for all the staff on the network and some may accept friend requests even, this is just a general thread on why some may not.

One of the reasons can be that we don't want players to know where we are all the time. This can lead to some players following members of staff around and trying to get their attention. Sometimes, we may just want some time to ourselves and that little bit of privacy on the network. Imagine if you had 30 friends that all followed you around wherever you went, it might get a little disturbing.

Another reason could be that we don't want players to know the exact time we go on and offline. It may mean that as soon as we get on the server and before we even get our bearings, we may be bombarded with messages. Sometimes, we may just pop in to check something or do some staff things and not have time to stop. As soon as the questions start coming in at that point, we'd feel obligated to stay and answer them which might be a little inconvenient (feel free to do so though if you catch us online).

A third reason, which is one of my reasons for this, is that we don't want to add players who want a staff member as a friend for convenience. We may reserve our friends list for people who we play with, know in real life or from other places or anything else along those lines. If you're adding us just to show off or to have a messaging arsenal then that might be a reason for not getting added. Try talking to us and have fun with us, then you may even get one from a staff member instead!

So should I just not send a staff member a friend request then?

Not at all, as I said above, I don't speak for all the staff members and some staff may actually add players as a friend. Might even be just me, who knows! I just don't want you to be offended if we don't respond or if you do get declined. We're not mad at you for trying to be our friend, it's actually nice to know we're doing a good job keeping everyone happy :)

Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, sections you want answering in this thread or changes to anything then please let me know down below. Of course, if any staff want to add anything then just message me and I'll add it in.

Yes before I used to accept friend requests, I wouldn't accept people except staff. I didn't do this because I hated players, I just needed to know where staff were at all times.

Though adding all friend requests I receive now, it's true it can be overwhelming at times when you want to get online to do some quiet building and everyone knows you've just joined. Additionally when you're trying to be super sneaky with your rank off going after hackers and 50 people join your game asking "dizzeh why dont u have ur mod rank on???" ;)

I only have Sophie and Gamer, And Sophie was the one giving ME the request, and Gamer cuz, stream =P

I do see the point in you guys not accepting friend requests, but, yah =P

This thread's nice. c:
Most people don't really accept friend requests due to them only wanting close friends on their list - the same goes with Staff members.
It could also come as inconvenience, because some people could be like; "Haha! I have Dizzeh on my friends list" And if someone sees that and sent a friend request to Dizzeh about three months ago and still isn't on her list, it'd feel biased. (I hope that makes sense.. xD).

Thanks for making this, Harieo <3

Like he said, it definitely is not because staff don't like you, don't want to be your friend, etc., and some of us do accept your requests! But if a staff member does ignore your friend request, or they decline it, it doesn't mean they hate you or dislike you at all, which is what can be really hard to tell others when they're asking you 'why didn't you accept my friend request ?? do you not like me ??', because that's definitely not the message we want to send !

This is a very understandable reason not to accept us... I send requests and if im rejected i just leave its not fair to crowd you all... I mean i don't normally send request that much anyway so xD
Well said Harieo...,
I ship Kasieo

This is a really great topic! I know a few people who have taken it personally when a staff doesn't accept their request, I'll start showing them this forum thread so they know it's not their fault. Thanks! :p

I personally didn't accept requests anyway, even before staff as I didn't know them, like everyone has said, it's not because I don't like them or hate them, I have 30 pages of friends to remember already which is a bit hard, I also would like to see where other staff are at certain times, therefore I don't reject them as I don't like giving the message "I don't like you", so I just leave them.

If I dont know them, I decline xD

This message needs to be seen, a lot of players take it personally when it says:
'So & So Declined Your Friend Request'

Omg yes, also as you said, it's not only the staff members. I used to accept all friend requests, I had 36 pages, but yesterday I cleaned it out and only the people I know/play with are on the list, long story short, I deleted 30 pages of my friend list.

I always take it personality ;)

I think that you need to respect decisions of anyone period.

Thank you for this post. I see staff being pestered a lot on multiple servers and I can feel the toxicity just watching it.

If they're an interactive and nice player who is just friending the staff because they're actually friends, then they wouldn't be bothering anyone. Many players see the staff in different ways and just simply want them on their friends list.

Wait, "rank off"?
Wait can staff remove their rank to look like normal players?
