Today I joined the server and tried out Murder V2. I noticed the changes, but one that stood out to me was the addition of player name tags, and not for a good reason.

Having name tags meant that we could see players in other rooms, but more specifically, we could see when multiple player's names disappear around one player. This makes it extremely obvious that this player is the murderer, as wherever they go, names disappear. This caused most of my games to be extremely short (we're talking seconds) and extremely easy.

It also means the murderer knows where everyone is, and no one can be caught by surprise anymore. The murderer already has footprints, why do they need to make it even easier? It makes it unnecessarily easy for players, and takes the fun and thrill out of the game. You know where everyone is, and who the murderer is in the first 10 seconds. It ruins the game.

It also gives people more of a reason to camp, so that the murderer can't find them as easily and they go shift in a corner. Which we all know is extremely aggravating. Murder shouldn't be this easy. It was perfectly fine before, without the names, and with the excitement of not knowing where every single player is.

I have talked with a few players, and a lot of them agree with me on this. I sincerely hope you really take it into consideration to remove names.

While the addition to name tags can be annoying at times, it was added to prevent users from camping in one spot. As you said, users are still able to shift so that would make it a bit harder.

To my knowledge, footsteps were taken out and replaced with particle trails that don’t follow players across the entire map, just a few blocks.

When a player is killed, their name tag sticks with their body. It doesn’t disappear completely. I’m unaware if this is intentional or not.

Hope this clears some things up.

It does stick to the body, however it disappears for a second and is then lower down on the ground, to match the dead body. So, it is still extremely obvious.

The names do nothing for camping, because if someone wanted to camp, they would quite obviously just shift which defeats the purpose.

People aren’t focused solely on watching everyone’s name tag, though. They’re more focused on avoiding the murder and gathering emeralds for a gun. It is less noticeable, although one or two people may notice, but the name tag is still unable to be clearly seen.

I do see your point in this, but not everyone shifts as I said. This just makes it a bit easier for the murder to find users so they don’t stay in one area until the game is over. This is also where the particle trail comes into play, as it’s always there.

To be honest I think we are all on the fence(we being the dev team) with this one, we were like nametags would make less camping, but there seems to be a few players that don't like it, we might do a poll or something to see what players want

Not in my experience. The games i played, everyone was pointing out who the murderer was because they saw their name.

Sounds like a good idea, thank you!

For about a year I think the game was basically this back in good ol 2014. Although shooting mechanics are very wonky and makes the game pretty much rng for shooting. The reason a lot of murderers are killed is because of their lack of skill and intuition. Although the shooting mechanics do contribute to this.

Right now a lot of players think killing everyone you run into is a good idea and so they do that while running because that's what today's "good" players do. Not a lot of them understand that in order to win strategy is needed not just Rambo. Aka when have you played a game where the timer went out. Probally never as most players are either dead before then or the murderer is killed quickly.

I don't think this should be implemented because I feel people just aren't use to it. Once it's been realized for longer I think people would get used to it and it won't be a problem anymore. The devs wouldn't have implemented it if they didn't think it would be a good addition

Nice to meet you, I have been playing Murder since around July 2014.
I noticed that the display of player names has been restored like the old, and posted this sentence.

I'm against for the system to display player names on the screen.
You said this system can prevent camping.
However, is that true?
Players can hide their names by pressing the shift key.
So I don't think that camping can be prevented.
Above all, the problem is that the diversity of Murder's play style is lost.
Murder cannot kill Bystanders all without exposing his role.
There are the following two reasons.
1. It is very easy to determine who is Murder by watching player names. Bystanders can easily determine Murder, because they can easily observe players' running speed and the death of players.
2. The tactics doesn't occur in the last battle, because Bystander can know the place of the last player (Murder). Murder cannot pretend to be Bystander, nor can kill Bystander by the attack from blind spot.
I think the fun of this game is that players cannot easily know who is Murder.
For the above reasons, I think the display of player names should be hidden.

Hi! I do not think this is a good suggestion since this can lead to camping. As we can not prevent camping, nametags will make it even worse. That's a -1 from me.

btw ive removed this in the betamurder to see how it goes so feel free to do /beta betamurder and test it (and a load of other updates)
