“I’m not sure we’ll make it in time,” Jared said, panting.
“We have to try,” I replied, exhausted.
“Can we at least rest?”
“If we do, we’re for sure not going to make it.”
“Amy, if we don’t make it, I just want you to know-”
I held my hand up. “We will make it.”
He grabbed my other hand and squeezed it.
I looked up at him. (He stood at 5’11, and I was only 5’6.)
He had a tear in his eye, and I reached up to brush it away.
We continued our journey.
I looked at my right hand, seeing that my pinky finger was practically gone.
I stuffed it in my jacket pocket, not wanting Jared to see it.
If he did, he would freak. I just want him to stop worrying about me, it makes me worry too.
You might be wondering what’s going on by now.
And the truth is, I’m not entirely sure.
It was three days ago, I was taking out the trash.
I walked in the alleyway, and some claw-like hand grabbed my wrist.
It’s sharp fangs jabbed into my arm. I only saw its silhouette.
It looked like some sort of beast. Furry, hunched over, and not to mention the claws. For some reason, I didn’t scream. I just stared at the dark red blood oozing out of my body. I felt numb on my right side. (The side that got bit) A little paralyzed, even. Before I knew it, I crumbled to the concrete ground, and everything went black.
I woke up, leaning against the dumpster. How did I end up here?
Had the beast helped me sit up? Did some stranger walk by?
I tried to move my right arm. It wasn’t fully paralyzed, just very heavy and numb. I held my breath. It took all my might not to scream at sight of the blood still coming out. Was I going to lose all my blood and die? Right here? I was filled with questions.
I then noticed my right pinky finger was fading at the tip.
What the heck is going on? I had thought.
I leaned my head back on slowly closed my eyes.
Now I’m here. Walking on this endless path. Dead trees all around me.
Grey sky. Grey everything, to be exact. It’s like I’m living in a grey-scale world. I have to ask Jared whether it’s day or night.
Two days later.
“J-Jared?” I asked, sitting down.
He looked at me, alarmed.
“Amy, you’re fading!”
“I feel really weak,” I mumbled.
He sat down and held me close.
“Don’t leave me,” he said quietly, tears coming to his eyes.
His forehead touched mine as he cradled me in his arms.
“Please don’t leave this world.”
“I’m nothing without you.”
“Amy, please say something.”
By now tears were streaming down his cheeks.
I hated to see him like this, but I couldn’t get my mouth to move.
Instead, I raised my left arm to his cheek.
I smiled softly.
He cried harder.
The world escaped my grasp as everything around me faded, I was gone.
Sorry for not having a lot of detail as to what was happening in this story, I was in a rush as I wrote it. It was meant to be short, though.
