As an old player, I have come to love murder for how the maps were even for bystanders and the murderer; but the new maps like Cobblestone and Hotel.
What I suggest is probably going to be declined, but delete most of the newer maps that are way too large to be fair for the murderer, and bring back old maps like:
Clue by Clental
Italy by Zwangi
Office by Starthefishgirl
etc. But the point is evident. From what I've seen, many other players also preferred the old maps built by players over the new expansive ones made by build teams. Give it a try! Just testing it for a day for feedback is harmless!
Old doesn't always mean better. The new maps are scary yes, there are many needed issues with them. These include barrier blocks, size, and a scary feel for it. Still the new maps are a little needed as italy definitly was a good change in mobility, yet it was a little overly detailed I will admit.
The barrier blocks are too commonly used and in certain spots it sucks to have them and makes it to enjoy as you can't aim for something you can't see.
A scary feel for it gives it aesthetic, this could be backup music such as disc 13 or silly traps such as the hotel being worn down with breaks in the floor. The build team is great for what it is yet overall it is more their own style not murder's needed style if you get that.
The size is definitely a issue. There have been several games where people could not find players in the said time. Hunger games for example can have big and small maps because of deathmatches and world boarders yet murder can't really do that unless we change the game such as its 5 minutes or so until the police arrive and you have to survive the last 30 seconds in one specific room until then. Just a idea to make the game a little less hide and seek. Or maybe just add 30 second or something to the timer.
...
Though I loved the previous maps, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you here.
A few of the old maps were too small for bystanders to move around and away from the murderer.
I feel like revamping the maps gives players something new and different, constantly seeing and playing the same maps can be tiring and boring after a while. In order for the server to grow, updates are necessary and I believe this update was for the better of the server as a whole.
I think the current updated maps are great for both bystanders and the murderer because;
1) Gems are spread out in a variety of places (because the map is larger), making it slightly difficult for players to obtain a gun easily.
2) The murderer is able to complete murdering people from a farther distance without alerting players.
With all that being said, I appreciate your suggestion and the points you made.
Change isn't always a good thing such as a change of nametags not being seen though walls. Making gameplay slower and games longer.
Maps shouldn't be all about detail and such unless they are for that reason such as a painting. You could create a beautiful master piece or create a message in the piece. It might be beautiful yet the message gives it enjoyability to connect with the piece.
The point is that the current maps are all about detail not about the message of it or more specifically the gameplay of it.
Office for example is hard to play having so many thing in the way and it feels all crowded.
