two cousins, a liar and a thief, but still it's ok. As they travel through worlds, breaking sanity's laws to get what they need. So how are they not the bad guys when they keep a power that is not theirs?
It was a silent day at the town of Ragni, at a shaggy broken tavern at the side of the village where an interesting conversation starts to pop up.
A man with a round belly slams his cup down on the decaying table. Head swaying and eyes bulging.
“Hey!” He hiccups of stale alcohol. The bartender turns around and wipes away this gold cup and refills with another drink, listening to what his old friend has to say.
“Have you heard ‘bout the rumours of two *hiccups* kids?” The drunkie slurs his words, spilling more drink on the floor. People quickly get out of his way, trying not to get hit with his metal mug. The bartender sighs.
“What two? There are a lot more then two kids in the world we live in Dug.” He replies, wiping up the mess. He almost rips the mug out of Dug’s hand until he kept on talking.
“Those two that live past the forest at Detles, they are supposedly children of revolutionaries that were executed back before the founding of the Counsel.” That was something he’s interested.
“Ah those two, they have some interesting magic them.” The bartender circles the table with his finger. He slowly brings up an interest in the subject. I better keep an eye out for them if they come here. A grin wrinkles his loose skin.
“Any distinctive features about them?” Quickly refilling the mug again. Dug rubs his chubby cheeks before answering. “Apparently one if an elf and the other is human, they both work in the forest at night but no one goes, it’s too dangerous to go in. Stupid teenagers might as well get themselves killed in there.” He grumbles, staining his jacket with whisky.
CRASH
A chair merely misses the bartender by a hair. “Hey! What’s your problem? You’re going to pay for that!” He fumes over the remains of the wooden object. He quickly swallows his anger as a massive shadow engulfs him. The unknown man was built as if he was a living beast hybrid, ready to pounce on his victim.
“Tell me the names of the two children.” He grunts. Letting out a foul but sweet scent.
“Well uh.” The bartender gulps. “They err, names ah, Josh McKay and River RavenHunter. They’ll be in town later this week!” He unexpectedly squeaks at the end of his sentence. The man in black backs away. Slowly getting smaller until the size of an average teen.
“Yes I heard. I’v been here the whole time and sorry for lying about my size, I’m not that big all the time.” The now teenager in black walks over and places a pouch on the counter. “That should be enough to pay for the chair and get more bottles. Your running out pretty fast with your friend guzzling it all. Well, anyhow, thanks for the information, wish you a good day sir.” He says walking out the door.
The gravel crunched under his feet while walking to, partially nowhere. But thoughts crowd his mind as he went on. “Hmmm River and Josh eh? It’s been a while but I’v finally found you two.” A smile curls at his lips.

I’m running through the woods. Why am I running? Well, I’m not so sure. I stop abruptly pondering on my decisions (mind you I can't really remember that much of today). Suddenly it hits me, not mentally, but physically as I collapse to the dirt, wheezing for air. I glance up to see Dotty River dig her boot in my hand. Red lumps swirl to the surface on her skin.
“WHAT WAS THAT FOR JOSH?!?” She snare at me, driving her boot deeper into my hand. Oh wait, now I remember! I threw a beehive at her then I started running so I didn't get stung. But I guess once River’s done with me, I’d think that being stung all over would’ve been less painful.
After waiting outside of the hospital for two hours, River finally comes out less swollen.
“Aww statue bro? I can barely recognise you.” I joked around turning my her, when she passes me. “Shut up or I’ll cave your face in.” She replied. I could tell she liked my pun cause she's smiling. I put my hand on her shoulder, stopping her from moving.
“Race you home!” I dash forward opening an image of our house in my mind. SLAM. Ok I probably imagined too close cause now my face is glued to front door. I open the door to suddenly realise that I am making dinner tonight, so I reluctantly made my way to the kitchen.
Two Hours Later
With burnt pasta and white foam painted on the kitchen walls, I settle down on the table with my empty fire extinguisher in hand. I just sit there thinking about cooking classes cause unlike River, I can’t even make a sandwich to save my life. Wait that remind me, you don't actually know me do you? I’m Josh McKay, a Nova Wizard. Well, not much of a wizard. I’m just a kid that is trying to control his power. Whereas River, she knows how to control her magic properly. I’m a 16 year old turning 17 and I’m a natural born teleporter. I enjoy playing video games, practical jokes, puns and nice people in particular. I am a care free person and usually useless a lot of the time but I can be serious. If your wondering why I live with River, it's because she is my only cousin and there's no one else in the world since, well. I’ll tell you later. Well now let's talk about River. River is, wait. River? Where the heck is she it's ten at night and the pasta is rock hard. I’ll have to look around for, ah, more unneeded work. At least I can pick up another fire extinguisher.
One Hour Later
I’m walking around the town square and I can't find her ANYWHERE. I begin to worry as a magical aura flows in from the forest. I hope that's not where she went. Better check it out. I teleport to one of the tallest spruce trees, sinking into the shadows. I freeze. A deep coarse voice says “I have one of the packages, I’ll secure the other one.” A tall young male walks into the clearing, my heart almost jumps out my throat. River was slung over his shoulder.
“STOP RIGHT THERE!” I mentally kick myself. What on earth am I doing? I’m standing in front of someone that has beaten River, so how can I defeat this dude? Suddenly her lessons on acting/persuasive gestures rush in. I bring back my shoulders, straighten my back and point my chin slightly to the air.
“That’s my family that you have over your shoulder. I don't know what your going to do to River or what your intentions are but I can't let you take her away. She’s all I have.” Wow, that sounded more confident then I felt. But my new found courage quickly disappears when the man smiled.
“Boy I don't know what you’re gonna do about it but she isn't going alone.” Suddenly River is on the floor and the man get up in my face.
“I know who you are and for you and River’s sake, you’re coming with me.”
“I’m not sure about that.” I reply. His eves went wide when my eyes flash blue. He back flips on a tree.
“Show me what you got boy. I’m curious of your magic, it’s a rare one I’v never seen.” He said with a laugh.
“I didn't say I warned ya. NOVA STYLE NOVA BEAM!” I shout, there a small flicker of light, first a splutter then a full on tube blasts from my right palm. The man smirks. Too late to take back my mistake.
“TIME STYLE REVERSE.” Before I knew it, I was in his place. And that's when I realised how he beat River. Everything went dark and my eyes flashed red.
I jolt up from the soft grass. The sunlight piercing the trees and the faint trickle of water from a nearby stream tells me I'm still in the forest. Failure begins to rise in my chest and pours out with my tears.
“Why aren't I stings enough to protect my own family?” I sob uncontrollably.
“Wow, Josh I never knew that you could look like this.” I look up to her voice and see a camera recording everything I said. My face flushes with anger. I sink back to the ground and fall asleep.
I wake up. This time in bed. Thank goodness that it was a dream. I slip out of bed and downstairs to find River leaning over the grey spaghetti.
“You really can't cook to save your own life can you?” She smirks over my failure.
“I think it's still hard.” She suddenly frowns and leans closer for examination.
“Pfft, yes it is. Watch” I storm over a scoop the plate in my hand, determined to prove her wrong for the first time in a while. I turn the plate upside down, expecting to hear a sploosh. CRASH. I peer to the ground.
“What on earth did you put in the pasta?” Where the pasta should be, there is a plate sized crater through the wooden blanks.
“Ops, ok I quit.” I say slumping down on my seat. I lean my head sideways to see anew bruise on River’s arm.
“What happened?”
“Your brain though it was a dream happened.” River replied coldly.
