Post Merging would be a great change. This addon merges double, triple, or however many posts that are from the same user. This would decrease post-spam, and decrease the amounts received by a small amount. This would only be used in sections where you don't gain post count.

Players should not be double, triple or however many postings they are doing, and if they do then staff members merge the posts together anyway, leading this to be completely uncessecary.

-1 from me, sorry.

You can just edit your post, as stated in the forum rules- you should not be double posting anyways.

People tend to accidentally do it

Don't listen to them Tyler. It's a great idea.

"staff members merge the posts together anyway, leading this to be completely uncessecary." which is really dumb, because wouldn't that put a relief on staff so they didnt have to take time to merge the posts? No sense in not adding this.

"us having to implement new things"
It's free. What's wrong with adding something that's free to make for a better experience?

"Players should not be double, triple or however many postings they are doing"
Exactly. So this will help players not break rules as it combines it with their old post, so that rule wouldn't even be needed anymore.

I love the idea.

Then they can be more careful instead of us having to implement new things
Well it is less work for you if this gets added

I know, they should just appreciate that if this gets added there is less work for them

Players should read the rules before commenting on the forums, if they double post then we have to warn them for double posting as it is against the forum rules, implementing an entire new system just to merge double postings is completely irrelevant due to the fact that it is not much effort to press a button and merge posts together. As well as this saying "this will help players not break rules as it combines it with their old post", like I stated, players shouldn't be doing it anyways, if they want to add something there's an "edit" button at the bottom of the page, or if they do it accidently they can simply remove the post and edit the one they have, also like I stated, adding an entire new system just to merge posts is not necessary.

I do agree with the current listings from the staff members

Adding this would be just redundant for a system that already is fine as it is. If people break the basic and minor rule that is to not double post, they will be warned, and it will be their fault for breaking the rule. If the user instead decides edit the post instead to add more information, then good on them for following the rules!

Edit: Due to a well thought out, and detailed response from Corcustos, I will have to say if the developers deem it something they should work on, then I would not mind. +0

i like this idea. +1
its less work for helpers/mods and its a really annoying rule for the most part. people always accidentally double post and this would help with that.

Not everyone thinks like that, and I don't blame them. Most of us have made mistakes which we should acknowledge. You'll have less trouble if this got added

Players should be double checking what they are posting before they post, if they they continue to post it it's against the rules, therefore we as staff members will have to warn them for double posting as a REMINDER of not to do it.

As well as this, if this was to be added people would double post more, this would also bump threads as it would merge with your previous comment.

jee alright smh

So it seems there's two sides to this suggestion. Let's go over them.

On one side people are saying that this will make things easier for both players and staff members because players won't have to double check if they've posted already, and staff won't have to punish people for messing up. This would also help people who lag and accidentally do double post. Seems alright.

On the other side, we're saying that we shouldn't have to make extra features to accompany the mistakes of the playerbase, and it is their responsibility to not break the rules. I agree to this for the most part. It is their responsibility and we shouldn't have to do extra work to make things easier for them, right? Well... When it comes to something that's on this small of a scale, which requires something more or less as little as installing and configuring an add-on, why not?

What this add-on would do is auto-merge posts, but not just that. I'm not entirely sure if it is this particular add-on, but some of them that do this kind of thing have means to prevent constant bumping on threads, and stat boosting, due to abusing the merging system. That takes care of that issue. While players should indeed be careful not to break the rules, would it not be a bad idea to ignore something that would make both our jobs and the player's experience even slightly more seamless with as little work as it takes compared to the other things we do for the players? We've just implemented a feature that automatically locks threads after two weeks to help prevent necro posting. In my opinion, I'd rather use the time focused on dealing with necro posts and double posts to handle other things such as reports and appeals more efficiently. The less amounts of grunt work we have to do, the more we can excell in the other more impactful fields. Now, I'm not saying that we should go looking for ways to reduce our workload, but if it erases something as small and inconsequential as necro/double posting and makes even a little bit more time for the more important responsibilities of a staff member then we should absolutely implement this. Saying no to a double post merger for the reasons that people have stated so far is like not getting spam bot or DDoS prevention because it's our jobs to actively combat it, which is pretty ridiculous. I'm going to have to disagree with my colleagues and support this add-on.

I mean, if it really won't bump posts, then it actually probably won't be half bad- If the devs really want to put in the time to add it. While I still personally think that players should be more careful, this is a valid point indeed- even if the examples may be a little extreme compared to the issue at hand. Nevertheless this has set me on a neutral standpoint on this topic.

-1 for me. I don't think two people should get points for the exact same post.
