What got you into building?

I started out in Minecraft classic - the free in-browser version of Minecraft where the only gamemode is creative and you get an extremely limited amount of blocks to build in (http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Data_values/Classic). The first Minecraft classic server that I played on made you build for ranks. Higher quality builds means higher ranks, like how some creative servers are formatted today.

Here's an example of a build I did on classic: http://i.imgur.com/QKHBd.jpg

I would say that's the start of when I got interested in building something other than square boxes.

When I got the full version of Minecraft I played in survival for a while building wood and dirt boxes to survive in, but then I started watching Minecraft videos on Youtube - gameplays, walk-throughs, and timelapses.
FyreUK (sad to see them go, but it's actually pretty funny that I mess around with some of their builders now) was was an insanely huge inspiration for me in creative building, and mostly the main reason that I started to strive in improving my building skills again. I tried to build villages or big builds like theirs, in order to make timelapses by myself.

Old timelapse example (actually had to dig quiet deep for this):

But the quality of my builds in those timelapses never satisfied me, I always compared my builds to the "big" teams, I kept trying to make my builds better, studying the detailing and structure from other builders and teams, mainly FyreUK.

During this time, I joined a few creative servers that made you build for ranks, lost most of my interests in making timelapses (after learning how they're really made), and vastly improved my building skills after interacting with many other skilled builders.

Example of my building skills around this time: http://i.imgur.com/y43EWQj.jpg

After a while, when my building skills were barely above average, a few friends asked me for help in becoming a builder for their server. That's when I realized that building can be for something other than creative fun (but it mostly is creative fun).

It was only a couple months ago when I actually applied to build teams, I had been building alone the whole time since I never found anyone that was as interested in building as I was, but that's changed now. :)

Why are you running?

I used to freerun (yes, that is me, circa 2012)

Thank you for your life story ;)
Why you stalk me

What is your favorite TV show?

I don't watch television - so sorry I currently don't have a favorite show. However, when I used to watch TV a couple years ago, it was Ghost Adventures.

I have watched a couple things on Netflix. I'm currently watching The Office, I just finished season 6 of The Walking Dead and I've watched Stranger Things. However, I didn't really like these show. Personally, the best series that I've seen on Netflix so far is Narcos. I do watch anime, but that's really quiet different from American television.

What is your favourite build of yours?

My favorite build would have to be "Autumn Wind of the Red Leaf Maple". I really enjoyed studying the architecture that influenced the build as well as working with a close friend of mine on it. Overall, it's a build that represents/contains most of the things that I have a real passion for.

Why is your name Bassfreerunning? other than the running part of course

What is your motivation to build such complex things, even when you know it will take a long time?

Where does your patience come from? XD

Where does your patience come from? XD

My main motivation is to inspire the people who view my builds to go out and build themselves. This, along with the fact that building complex things is the the most prominent way to get noticed within the build community, helps me reach the finished product of whatever I'm building.

I used to be pretty impatient with my builds. I usually used to stop working on my builds after building one good wall, but after publishing a completed build online and seeing all the positive feedback as well as experience the actual end product of the finished build, I got some patience and was able to get through the whole building process of newer builds. However, I would still consider my patience to be underdeveloped - sometimes it takes months for me to do what other builders do in weeks because I like to take a break when I lose patience during work on a large project.

Any tips for any newer builders?

Generally, the tips that new builders are given are:
  • Expand on your block and colour palette.
  • Work on incorporating depth into your build. (Not just walls and detailing, but the composition of the build itself)
  • Study structure from real life architecture and try to replicate it into Minecraft.
  • Study from other builder's techniques. There are plenty of ways to make a build look better, for example, studying how another builder makes a pillar and incorporates it into their build.
If you're serious about trying to get into building, learning the basics of world edit and voxel sniper will open many new doors for you.
You can start building mega builds and organics after learning the basics of these building plugins. (You can do what the plugins with vanilla block placing, but it just takes a lot more time and skill.)
