Gone.
His home. His friends. Even his family. All of it was gone.
And it was all because of the humans' war.
A black cat with a white ear and tail tip gazed at the scenery in front of him, his icy blue eyes filled with horror. The entire forest in which he once resided was now engulfed in orange flame; from the very top of the highest trees to the lowest of the undergrowth, and there was nothing he could do to fix it.
The black cat in question was named Yoru. His parents had once told him how it meant "night" in one of the humans' languages, and that he reminded them of the night sky. He always loved looking at the stars with them and trying to count how many were in view. How Yoru longed for them to be by his side once more.
Yoru shook his head to snap himself back into reality. The flames were growing stronger as it brought down the whole forest tree by tree. He immediately knew he had to get out of there as quickly as he can.
Yoru swiveled his head left and right to try and find a way out of the burning maze he was currently trapped inside of. His blue gaze locked on a narrow dirt passage that was still untouched by the fire. Without thinking, he broke into a sprint and followed the path as it hopefully took him out of the forest he once called his home.
Yoru's thoughts were correct: the path led him directly out of the burning forest. Once he was out of the forest and into the broken city, he kept on running. He did not stop until he was sure he would be safe from the fire that threatened to scorch his pelt off. His fur was matted down with sweat from the heat, and he was only sweating more because of his run.
Yoru's movements slowly turned from a run into a full stop. Trying to catch his breath, he slowly turned towards the direction in which he came. The forest was completely caked in orange. He saw no other cat exiting the area. He was now positive that he was the sole survivor of the whole ordeal.
Yoru's eyes began to water. A single tear dropped from his eyes onto the concrete floor he was standing on. A few more tears fell onto the floor until Yoru was sobbing quietly, forgetting his attempts to be strong and letting it all out. He then took a deep breath and, turning his head towards the smoky sky, proceeded to yowl his grief out loud, letting his voice echo throughout the collapsing stone buildings.
He yowled long and clear, letting lone tears fall, grieving over his family, his friends, his home.
He had no one to turn to. He had nowhere to go.
He was alone.
He was alone in an apocalyptic world.
