Now

Silence.
I stood upon the hill, looking up. There, on the other side was him. The man that caused this is all. Taking everything away, taking our future, taking it all. But we will fight, even if we lose the battle. We will fight this war.

Because if there's a future, we want it.
And we want it now.

The silence is disrupted by the sound of a grenade losing its pin. Looking at the crooked man I saw the grenade. I watched it fly in the air, flying towards me. I closed my eyes and everything exploded.

Fog surrounded me as I opened my eyes slowly. Through the haze, I saw people fighting one another. My rebels and the crooked man's soldiers. Dirt flew around as I lay on the ground disorientated. It felt like I'd waken from the dead and that everyone was waiting on me.

Landing on the ground by me was my second in command, he wore dusty orange and his beard was smudged with dirt. He looked me in the eyes, realising I was still alive. He helped me up from the ground as he looked around wildly. He ran towards a soldier, trying to protect me but he was thrown aside like a doll. The soldier made his way towards me, his baton ready to strike. I looked up at him, my height nothing like his. The soldier faltered, lowering his baton. Before I could do anything, the soldier was thrown aside.

This was when I finally stood up, taking in my surroundings. Looking everywhere I only saw a frenzy of attacks. Rebels and soldiers alike collapsing upon one another, thirsty for blood. Through the fog was when I saw him.
The crooked man.

'There's a time and a place to die, but this ain't it.' I murmured to myself, walking straight towards the crooked man.

As I walked through the battle zone, grenades exploded, fires roaring wildly. Soldiers with batons tried to strike me but the rebels held them back. I ignored the fighters and carried on walking. I had to get to him, I had to get the crooked man.

A rebel passed me a flare, instantly I set it off, red smoke escaping it. Soldiers fell to the ground as more rebels set off flares. Soldiers choked on the red fumes but I carried on moving. Our flame slowly died out as the soldiers equipped themselves with gas masks, invulnerable to the smoke, they attacked once more. The soldiers attacked with even more ferocity. A soldier pulled at me, trying to drag me down. I struggled and pulled free of my jacket and carried on marching. Nothing will stop me.

Just as I was close, the soldiers went wild. I watched as soldiers attacked rebels with their batons. Bright yellow erupted from the rebel, dark purple from another. An array of colour was spilt until it was my turn. The strike hit me directly on the back of the head. Bright blue flared from my head as I collapsed to the floor.

'There's a time and a place to die,' I said, looking around, 'There's a time and a place to die,' I repeated looking around once more.

Looking up, I saw the crooked man walk towards me. A smug look upon his face. I gritted my teeth and pulled myself from off the ground.

'There's a time and a place to die, and this ain't it!' I screamed, running towards him as fast as I could.

Soldiers grabbed my arms, pulling me back. I struggled against the two, trying to wrench myself free. Behind me I heard my second in command crying out, he too was held down by soldiers. Looking up at the crooked man, he unsheathed his baton. Ready, ready to strike. No, I won't go down like this. Struggling against the soldiers, I managed to pull off my jumper. Without wasting a second I ran.

'This ain't it!' I shouted, running into the crooked man's arms.

The crooked man faltered, my hands around his waist. His baton fell to the ground, astonished. His arms wrapped around me. Behind us was a cheering uproar as the battle was over. This was the only way for this to end.

Because we wanted a future.
And we wanted it now.
