Pikachu is a yellow MOUSE. They're different.

Contrary to popular belief, mice are not the same as rats. Pikachu is labeled as the "Mouse Pokémon". There are many differences between rats and mice, mainly being their size and small physical details. So no, a Pikachu is not a yellow rat, but rather should be called a yellow mouse, but there are other colors on pikachu other than just yellow.

Yeaaaa but everyone calls him Yellow for the sake of easiness =P Lol
 
I possibly am wrong, but there is an animal called a pika and i think it lives in Australia, I remember this because I have a shirt of Australian animals (yay me) so I don't think he is a mouse or a rat. That's just a theory :p
