"You don't need to lie. You know i'll see through." He winked at me as we waltzed around the gym. I looked around, feeling eyes on us. The room was filled with seniors. Everyone. People who cared, and didn't care. I was inbetween. I got so far for a girl who started so low. I looked to the ugly gray stage at the front of the room. Although the room was painted black, and the floors were an oak wood, the stage sat well in the scene. Especially when it was decorated with fancy red curtains and part decorations. Though, the stage still looked slightly ugly. "So?" He asked, nudging me again. I sighed. Staring at the souls dancing around them. I wonder what their stories were. "Of course Nathan. I know." I look into my friends eyes. Suddenly, i feel his hand slide upwards to my chin, and as he reached it, he begun caressing the area. I pulled gently. He was my best friend, not my boyfriend, i thought. "I know your name isn't Amber." He yanked my chin again, making me stare into his massive hazel eyes. I stared. "I know what happened that night, Nathan." I glared, looking back directly into his eyes. He ran his hand through his silky looking blond hair. He chuckled. "Well, you know i only did it for you." He said, finally pulling me into a rough yet passionate kiss. I pull. How could i not know? "I... i need to go to the bathroom." I say akwardly, pulling from his grip and running off.
I sighed as i slid down the wall. Cuffing my hands into my face. Why would he remind me of such a night? A he touched me ever so gently with his olive skinned hands like he did on the same night. I think again. That night. I couldn't live with myself. Nathans voice rang around in my head. "Get out of the car!" I shiver as the cold shout rings from inside of my head. God, i need a refreshment now.
As i stumble out of the bathroom stalls, i bump into a familiar face. "Adrianne." I smile at the blue eyed blond. She grins. "Laura." She attempts to hug me, with her crutches. I laugh at the attempt. I suddenly let out a loud sigh as the cold night reappears into my brain. "Laura... it wasn't your fault. You couldn't have prevented this." Adrianned smiles lightly, obviously trying to hide the great pain behind it. "You almost died Adri. I left your family in a mess. I barely visited." I let out a loud breathe. "You were in collage, prepping to be a doctor... my family is fine... i mean Fleur could be better, but they're all okay now. We're just.... stressed." She says, attempting to raise my downy mood. I look at her chin, its scarred badly from the night of the accident. I can't do this anymore. "Be right back.." i smile at Adrianne. She smiles sadly.
I run back into the bathroom stall, reaching for the small blurred window at the side. I grabbed the little metal bin and smashed the latch. "Amber!" I hear a males strong voice echo. Nathan. I slid out of the window, just about and fell onto a patch of grass. The grass was damp and the air was thick and cold. I shed a tear, as i ran into the cold night. Hearing the voice of Nathan shouting behind me. Calling me. I heard the world fall as it happened. I saw the light.
10 years later
I saw the light. It was the last thing i saw after overlooking my life, my choices the world. I loooked specifically at the night i ran away. The night i walked away from everyone, leaving my loved ones behind. Leaving my friends and relatives behind. I saw them every now and then. But they never saw me. I made new friends and lost those too. I happily marched into the light. Never to come back as Laura. Never to be lively again. Still, leaving the mystery.
The mystery of the girl who ran away.
