Make a statement. The person who replies will make a statement that takes things in a new direction that is scary, humorous, or otherwise surprising to the reader. Some examples:
1- Jane took out her trash because it was full.
She couldn't let the police find the evidence that was in there either.
2- Bob arrived at his friends party late.
He needed an aliby so he wasn't a suspect in his ex-girlfriend's disappearance.
3- Alfred ran through the streets.
He had skipped school and was being chased by his angry mother.
4- Paul always gave kids free candy.
But, only on Halloween of course.
