I spawned in a dark place, just a book in my backpack. Sometimes, if I'm lucky I have a weapon… Not this time.
I moved towards the walls, feeling up and down, my fingers ghosting over the cracks. Grit fell where my hand lay, coating my palm. I used the tips of my fingers to guide myself around, trying to find light or an open space.
It was a dark, eerie silence… I could hear my breaths bounce of the walls, echoing around me. I'd have to be quiet if I didn't want to be found.
Something made me freeze, I wasn't sure what it was but I stopped. For a second, I didn't hear anything.
Thump thump
The sound of gentle footfalls sounded down the tunnel, I wanted to run but I couldn't. My heart beat so quickly I was surprised the other person couldn't hear it.
The thumping became more pronounced… They were coming near me.
Thump thump
I held my breath, not daring to move. My eyes, already adjusted to the darkness, spotted a swift movement. I opened my mouth to scream, but something soft covered it, blocking the noise. Eyes wide, I took in the features of the character…
Dark eyes… Brown hair… Stripes… Fox!
I gasped as the hand fell, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, "It's so dark here! I wasn't sure if I'd find you!"
He pushed his face into my neck, my hair cascading down, covering his face. I heard his muffled reply, "Me neither, but I'm glad we spawned near each other. I already found… I already found a body. It was God's…"
I gasped again, "No!" I pushed him away. "Not God!"
Fox nodded meekly, "Yes… His last words were, tell Liv I love her."
Despite everything, I giggled. "Liv? No way. He does know that she's taken, right?"
He shrugged, "I don't know, but we should get out of this tunnel before the murderer finds us."
I nodded and grabbed his hand. We padded along the tunnel, not talking, listening out for any sounds.
After a while, I pointed, "There." Not too far away, there was a glow. The type you only got from sun.
"Do you think?" I gasped. "A glitch out of the map?"
"Maybe…" Fox breathed, as if not daring to believe it.
Our pace picked up, we were slightly jogging as the light got closer and closer. We reached the edge of the tunnel, standing close to the ledge. We squinted as the light blared into our eyes, blinding us momentarily.
My shoulders slumped, "The Gardens."
I heard a sigh from Fox as I climbed down the vines, jumping onto the grass.
It was a mini courtyard, surrounded by a tall, metal fence.
"I legit thought we found a way out." I grumbled, kicking a flower.
Even thought he didn't say anything, I know he agreed.
I walked around, looking for any emeralds but couldn't find any, "Well this was useless. There's nothing here."
I glanced back at Fox, who was lying down on the mound of dirt. As he sat up to look at me, I saw mud caked on his back. "You do know you have mud all in your fur now." I rolled my eyes at him.
As Fox twisted around trying to look at his back, I wandered over to the iron door in the corner of the gardens.
I sighed dispassionately, about to turn away but a flicker in the door's window caught my eye. I gazed inside, searching around in the darkness. A pair of red eyes, glaring at me popped out of the corner.
I screamed, jumping back. I tripped over my shoe, landing on my back gazing up at the sky.
"Ow…" I moaned.
A Foxy face loomed over me, "What did you see?!" He asked frantically.
"Satan's eyes…" I whispered.
