I flipped my hair out of my face and wiped my tears. She looked so peaceful, laying there with her eyes shut.
She could have tried, tried for me, for us, her mother and father. She didn't have to go like this. She's such a pretty, precious jewel. She was mine. The moon to my sun, the answer to my prayers and the one who kept me going, and I couldn't even see that she wasn't happy.
As I stepped away from the cold stone slab, I looked away as the lid was closed on her beautiful body, and sat far back in the pews.
We are gathered here today to...
Was all I heard before I blanked out all emotions and sat there coldly. The stars shone outside the stained glass windows, reminding me of the light in her eyes. A sob came from the person next to me, bringing me to my senses and I stood up, shocked at the realisation that she was gone.
I couldn't give her cuddles, I couldn't give her little nose kisses, or pick her up bridal-style anymore. I couldn't kiss every one of the scars on her arms and tell her she's beautiful, or stay up all night talking to her, just to keep her busy.
She is the only one I've ever loved. She fixed my shattered heart, piece by piece, and now I can't tell her I love her. That feeling, that she will never love me back, killed me.
The cube-shaped box in my pocket suddenly got uncomfortable. Having had enough, I stood up and walked out of the church. Raindrops fell onto my tear-stained face, and I made no move to wipe them. Mustering all the strength I had left, I threw the small box as far as I could into the dark forest that surrounded the graveyard. The ring that was supposed to be hers, to make her mine, forever.
