Hey there everyone!
As the next generation in line for the throne of ruling the planet we call home, it is up to us to make sure it's pretty, clean and you know... not dying. Make sure y'all spread this information to family and friends, don't be shy to remind them about this.

This is a thread on SMALL, EASY things you can do to help us SAVE THE PLANET!

1) Recyling! One of the easiest things you can do! A lot of our rubbish is actually recyclable, so make sure you check what you're throwing away is recyclable before you throw it in the general rubbish bin! Additionally, when you see rubbish lying about, you can just pick it up and quickly put it in a bin. It's easy to do and makes the environment cleaner so no little birdies eat the plastic stuff lying about! ALL GLASS AND ALUMINIUM IS RECYCLABLE!

2) Transportation! Instead of taking the car everywhere, encourage your family to take the bus, walk or bike places! It's much better for the planet and causes less/no pollution! It's also better for your health if you're exercising this way!

3) Electricity! Make sure you get LED light bulbs! They use WAY less electricity (so if you're having a hard time convincing your parents, let them know you get a cheaper electricity bill!) and so not as much needs to be made! Additionally, make sure you turn off the lights when you're not in the room!

4) Grow your own! You can grow your own vegetables, herbs and animals! I, for one, grow apples, pears, raspberries, different kinds of herbs and chickens (yes, straight from the chicken tree). Plants you grow your own are much better for your health and as for the chickens, you know that the eggs are FREE RANGE, which is always a nice thought c: (free range means they're able to go outside in open, grassy spaces, unlike some factory-farmed chickens).

5) Your own hive! Not good if you are allergic to bees (as I am), but I would totally do this if I wasn't allergic! You can buy your own hive! This is great because 1) the honey is GREAT for your health and 2) the bees can pollinate the flowers and stuff near your house! Bees are dying out ( #savethebees ) and the planet literally won't survive without bees and we need to make sure they live!

6) Bye bye plastic bags! Buy a couple of cotton bags and when you go shopping, use them instead (or instead, ask for a paper/cotton bag instead of a plastic bag when you're paying). They're reusable and much better for the planet!

7) Plastic racks! You know those plastic things that are hoop shaped that you find around cans of soda and beer? If you ever buy any of these and you need to throw them away, make sure you CUT the hoops as many fish and sea creatures get caught in these!

8) Exercise outside! Not only is exercising outside better for your health (that fresh air tho), it's much better to do it instead of in a gym where you waste electricity using machines (like why are you using a treadmill to run on the spot lol).

9) Compost heap! This is a really, really good idea! Convince your parents to get a compost heap. When you're done with your veggies at dinner and you don't want to finish them, you can throw it in the compost heap. This is much better for your garden and is better than throwing it in the trash!

10) Donate! Instead of throwing away old toys, shoes, clothes and such, donate it to charity!

The challenge is: NO TRASH FOR A MONTH! So recently (not really, I watched it like two months ago) I watched this video about a person who tried to not make any trash for a whole month! It was actually quite interesting. At the end of the month, she only had a few trash items, things that couldn't be recycled or reused in some way: a little plastic thing that attaches socks and like a plastic wrap thing. She bought cotton bags and used that instead of plastic bags, even at the shops. When she needed fruit and veg, instead of using the plastic bags given, she used those cotton bags. When she was at a shop, she asked the people to use a little coffee mug she had (when ordering a drink) and when she bought take away food, she asked for things in napkins. When you've finished with napkins, they can be used in compost. She bought worms and soil and whatever food waste she had, she threw away there. I'm probably going to try this soon as I'd love to make no trash for a month. PM me if you want the link to the video!

Just remember if you think you won't make a difference, imagine if everyone who thought they wouldn't make a difference did something small like this, so many things would be different.

It's nice to see someone our age caring for the environment, anyway, thanks for the cookie.

I'm glad y'all like it, hopefully this made a difference :)

I really enjoy this post! In my geography class, we're currently talking about ways to use the three R's more often, and I will definitely bring this post up in our next open discussion.

7) Plastic racks! You know those plastic things that are hoop shaped that you find around cans of soda and beer? If you ever buy any of these and you need to throw them away, make sure you CUT the hoops as many fish and sea creatures get caught in these!

I never thought about cutting them, but some companies are expanding their horizons to make biodegradable packaging that are fish and other animal's lives safe, so if they eat it, they wont get sick, and it will disintegrate into the ground/water if left for long enough (an article is here, here and here if you care to read).

9) Compost heap! This is a really, really good idea! Convince your parents to get a compost heap. When you're done with your veggies at dinner and you don't want to finish them, you can throw it in the compost heap. This is much better for your garden and is better than throwing it in the trash!

At my house, we have a large bin filled with dirt where we throw lawn clippings, fruits, veggies and other organic waste into, and after time it decomposes into the preexisting soil. It's a very good way to make good soil for gardening, so I recommend it to any green thumbs!
