CHAPTER 4: Tears To Shed
“BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!” The alarm clock went. Nixon got actually fed up from hearing that specific noise. Today seemed.. Dull to him.. everything was normal, for once. No drama, no deaths, no fighting, no…nothing, which was odd because Bloemfontein wasn’t a ‘normal’ old town. As usual, he got dressed and went to school.
A few minutes have passed and he saw the school’s entrance. “Gosh, I’m early..” He said excitedly, “For now.” He walked to the school gate and saw everyone staring at him. Maybe he wasn’t THAT early. “W-What?” Nyx mumbled. Everyone froze and pointed behind him. He eventually turned around to and his jaw dropped. There it was.. The planet Venus, almost blocking the sun. “W-W-Wow…” Nixon remarked and looked at his surroundings. “U-Uhm… Guys, we can’t just stand here! We need to do something!” An unknown voice in the background yelled. As she was pushing herself forward, Nixon could get a glimpse of her face. It was Gabby! Taking the lead as always, not that it’s a bad thing but Nyx is just thankful someone took the role of ‘The Leader’. “K, so uhm… I’ll figure out what’s going on! You guys just uh.. Get to class!” She pointed to the doors. And like always, they did what she ordered them to.

School’s over and Nixon walked through the hallway. As he looked through the library’s window he saw Gabby on the school’s computer. He opened the door slowly. As he didn’t want to make noise and be banned from the library… again. “U-Uhh G-Gabby?” Nixon said softfully. “WHAT?!” Gabby yelled. The librarian hushed her. “O-Oh uhm sorry Quinton.” She whispered. “Nyx.” He remarked. “Okay, ‘Nyx’, What do you want?” She asked. Nyx stared at her. Right into her brown sparkling eyes. “I-I uhm just wanted to know how you were doing… You seem stressed.” He replied. Gabby stared at Nyx and then back at the screen. Then back at Nixon then back at the screen. “Oh uhm, not really.. This Venus story is killing me. I don’t know what to do.” Gabby mumbled. “W-well I could help. Ema can to!” He screamed excitedly. The librarian hushed him. “Y-You would?” She asked. Nixon nodded and grabbed a chair. They’ve spent hours staring at the computer’s screen. Hoping there’s some information to be found. But there wasn’t…

“Okay, I uhm think we’re done here.. We’ll continue tomorrow.” Gabby remarked. Not long, a loud BANG noise appear in the distance. The two ran outside the school’s gates. Staring at the street. Three cars crashed into one another and blocked the road, wait.. four cars, five.. “This isn’t normal..” Said Nixon, “Nothing in Bloem ever is..” As the sky is being filled with smoke and tears.. The two see how families cry over their loved ones.. As the ambulance rescued the last survivor, the kids made eye contact with the victim.. It was a kid.. about their age.. Nixon wanted to leave but he couldn’t.. He just froze.. They both stared at the burning cars.. Thinking how they just witnessed death. Nixon shed a tear. Thinking about his mother..
