Apparently here.
Open plots, a feature in creative that is so widely used, and yet is generally unsafe for the contents of the plots it's applied on. For at any time while the plot owner is on or offline they may be afflicted by randomly flying griefers, or any potential mistake with world edit, effectively destroying the plot potentially overnight.

While they can report the grief and in most cases get it repaired good as new, nobody enjoys being griefed

I feel like Open plots should be allowed with a warning about the potential dangers to the user's builds, with the caveat that the open plot effect is removed immediately upon the plot owner logging off. When the user logs back on, if they want their plot open again, they'd need to manually set it open again.

This essentially keeps reminding the user that "Hey, you're opening your plot for everyone on the server to edit, and this can be quite unsafe for your builds." As well generally defending plots better against outright destruction that could happen if a user were to open a plot with the intent of closing it after they were done, but then forgets to close the plot overnight.

I've seen this somewhere but I don't recall where, none the less I definitely agree! +1

It could be like every 15-30 minutes the message would pop up in chat/screen and just to make sure the player has seen it, the pop up won't dissapear until you confirm you've seen it with a specific command. The command could be anything like /confirm etc, this would ensure the player wouldn't miss the popup when it does show.

This would most definitely be beneficial for the network.
A lot of players are unaware of the risks they take whilst keeping their plot always on open and as a result of this, I've seen multiple plots get destroyed from world edit glitches, griefers and so on. It doesn't hurt to bring caution to something like this, so I do see this as something that is necessary for the future. +1

I'm not sure if I read correctly, would the plot immediately close or would just a reminder pop up?

It would remove the open plot status automatically

There could also be a setting to leave it on indefinitely, but that can prove to have the same issues that this suggestion is aiming to fix.
