I'm now trying to figure out the etymology of these two words and it's messing me up.
The De- prefix means something along the lines of down or under.
-Moted and -Voted though.
I can see it with -Moted but now ithe -Voted.
Time for google.
Okay so apparently devote uses a different form of de- meaning 'formally'.
devot- means 'consecrated'.
and -vote means 'to vow'.
It pretty much means vowed to formally consecrate.
