Hey everyone, It’s been a while since we had an official update on how things are going with MCPZ, so this post will provide as much information as we can offer with where we are and what’s going on with us, and the future of the network. So let’s get into the details. New Ownership Some of you may have noticed a while ago that on our sister server, NemeGaming, we brought in two new owners. While it was mentioned in that announcement they were also joining MCPZ, there were no immediate plans to finalise this transition here until we could confirm a time to commit to the high workload that would be required in order to bring things back up to par. With that in mind, I’d like to welcome both @TitanicFreak and @Raj to the leadership team! They’ll be joining me as owners and providing their valuable resources to allow us to start the work we have been trying to push for over the last year (more on that further into this post). While they won’t be directly involved with our work, the resources they are able to provide will allow us to get much further than we’ve previously been able to reach. Current Issues This past year has seen a sure but steady decline in both the quality of work done, as well as the overall stability of the network across all games. This is not okay and is our primary reason for this plan and all it entails. Our goal is to fix PZ and bring it to the quality you expect, as well as bring the rules and processes up to date with how things are today. We understand that a lot of you grew up with this server and find the rules far too strict, and we agree with that -- more on that further into the post. Coming from me, I get that a lot of you are or were frustrated with how things have been handled over the past year, and I understand your frustrations. While it may appear obvious, PZ in its current state is not profitable to run, and that was never the intention I had when I took it over -- I saw how great of a community this network had and wanted to keep it going strong, and I know that has failed in a lot of ways, but I do mean it when I say that I still want to provide a fun and safe environment for you all to enjoy and play, particularly Murder. The Future We know a fair few people believe that we have given up on this network and plan to shut it down. We’d firstly like to deny that rumour, MCPZ will not be shutting down -- we plan to ramp up work on the network over the coming months. I understand that nowhere near enough has been put into this network, and I want to change that with what we have coming (all of which will be explained in more detail in the next section) over the next few months. The Plan Beginning with this process, we have to go back to basics. Over the last several years, MCPZ has undergone many code and iterative changes in all of its systems from many different developers of varying skill levels which have led to the current codebase being simply unmaintainable to a point where it would be easier to just start over. With that in mind, we’re bringing in our full-time developer, @Lew_, who is tasked with working on said rebuilding. Starting earlier this month, we began work on rewriting all major core systems that are involved in the overall running of the network, starting with the games core which is used as a base framework for all minigames. Both the original and updated versions of the games core on the current network were either simply inadequate or over-engineered to the detriment of maintainability with extremely questionable practices. All of this work is being done on an entirely brand new infrastructure and as far away from the current network as possible to ensure it can run on a new and more powerful environment. Primarily, our goal is to get MCPZ back up to the bare minimum modes first (Creative, Murder, and Survival), then further modes down the line if we’re able to build enough of a player base up from this. From there, we’ll be able to expand our array of content ranging from new cosmetics to new features across the network (and yes, this does mean the Discord linking bot will finally be fixed properly), as well as potentially bringing the latest version of Minecraft and its features to MCPZ in a variety of ways. Another major goal of ours is to finally bring an update to the entire staffing system, ranging from reworked staff ranks and roles to a brand new punishment system built from the ground up for MCPZ with a new set of rules that should be more what people expect. Alongside this will be updates to how we handle bug reports and suggestions. We’ll have further details on these changes at a later date. In Closing This certainly isn’t an easy task, nor is it something that we’d want to do if we had the choice, but we feel this is the best way to finally enact meaningful change to MCPZ, and we understand that a lot has been promised over the years. We don’t have a set time for when we expect this work to be completed, but we’ll show more when we’ve made good progress, and we’ll be providing updates about the process as we have to share it. We’d like to thank you all for your patience over this time, and we hope to bring you the highest quality server we possibly can. Thanks, MCPZ Leadership & Management
It’s a really big relief to hear information coming back to the community, thank you for all your work! I hope to see PZ thriving again someday.
I wish you the best of luck, perhaps a PartyZone v3? Either way, I'd love to see the place bounce back. The original murder was always the best
happy to hear from you!! as someone who has always loved this server, if there’s any way i can help please let me know!!
Glad to hear PZ is back! As a player from 2015, i'm glad the server is still staying up. PZ was actually my first server!!
glad to hear it's staying up!! mcpz was a huge part in my childhood and is still such a fun place. I hope we get back all of the players and the energy from a few years ago.
Glad to hear that the server won't be shutting down! I have fond memories of it and I wish you luck in attempting to fix the server!
